Streamus is an open-source Chrome extension[1] that allows you to save Youtube videos as a playlist to listen to as music. By using Streamus, users can simply find the Youtube video they wish to listen to, save the video into a playlist, and play the video without visuals. Essentially, Streamus acts as a music player for Youtube without having Youtube open.
History
[edit]The Chrome Extension was originally created by Sean Anderson when he realized it was frustrating to always save certain Youtube videos he wanted to watch. Eventually, he created Streamus to make Youtube streaming more convenient. [2] Since then, it has become popular in several tech articles including TechCrunch [3] , CNET[4] , and LifeHacker[5].
Operation
[edit]Streamus features include the ability to search for Youtube videos, creating playlists, keyboard shortcuts, Omnibox integration, and Beatport integration. [6]. Once the extension is installed, users are allowed to sign in with their Youtube account and access their favorite videos. Each video that is found from the search has an available option to be added to a playlist. Streamus also features audio controls to allow users to play, pause, shuffle, repeat, or skip. One thing to note is that only audio is played from videos.
Omnibox Integration
Omnibox Integration allows a user in Chrome to search using Steamus with the URL address bar. By simply typing "Streamus" and hitting tab, a user can immediately search for Youtube videos and add them to their Streamus playlist. [7].
