Suchithra Sajeev is an Indian classical dancer, educator, and entrepreneur, known for her expertise in Bharatanatyam, Mohiniyattam, and Kuchipudi. She is the founder and managing director of Indian Natya, an online dance academy focused on making Indian classical dance education globally accessible.
Early life and education
[edit]Suchithra Sajeev was born in Kerala, India. She began training in classical dance at the age of three and earned five Kalathilakam titles at the Kerala School Youth Festivals.[1] She completed a B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering and later pursued a Master's degree in Bharatanatyam from Kalai Kaviri College of Fine Arts, Tamil Nadu. She received classical training under Sri Raju Master and Sri Sivanandan Nair at Swathi Thirunal College of Music, Kerala.[1]
Career
[edit]In 2010, Sajeev founded Indian Natya in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. The academy provides instruction in Bharatanatyam (Kalakshetra style), Mohiniyattam, Kuchipudi, Kathak, Carnatic vocal music, and yoga. With a focus on accessibility, Indian Natya offers online classes to students across the United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and the Middle East.[1]
She has mentored and trained over 50 qualified instructors who conduct classes under her supervision. Sajeev has also worked as a teacher in both dance and computer science at institutions including Dunes International School, Global Indian International School, and Bright Riders School in Abu Dhabi.[1]
Achievements
[edit]Sajeev has been recognized with several awards:
- Nritya Pradibha Award by Sarga Kendra, Kerala (2000).[1]
- Amazing Teacher Award by Big Idea, Dubai (2018 and 2019).[1]
- Best Smile Award at the ISC Abu Dhabi fashion show (2019).[1]
Performances
[edit]Sajeev has performed extensively in India and the Middle East, particularly in Mohiniyattam. One of her most recognized performances is a rendition of Omanathinkal Kidavo, a classical lullaby in the Mohiniyattam style.[2]
