ScriptRunner is a software platform that supports the automation, configuration & administration of IT systems with PowerShell[1]. PowerShell activities can be controlled and monitored via the PowerShell Host. Further functionalities include the delegation of script executions via Web Apps as well as interfaces (so-called connectors) for integration with third-party software.
The first version of ScriptRunner was released in 2014 by the German company AppSphere AG. Scriprunner Software GmbH was spun off from AppSphere AG in August 2019 as an independent subsidiary.
History
[edit]The development of ScriptRunner started in the middle of 2013. In the following year, a first version was released as Minimum Viable Product, initially as a single-user version for administrators. With version 2014R2 it was possible to use ScriptRunner for the central organization and execution of scripts as well as reporting within administrator teams.
The first publication of the ScriptRunner delegation functions and the associated Delegate App took place in mid-2015. This made it possible to run PowerShell scripts with a delegation principle to ensure service desk and cross-team use of the scripts.
In the same year, additional developer features were added to the PowerShell ISE (Integrated Script Environment, short ISE) for DevOps[2].
Starting in 2016, connectors were introduced for integration and automation with third-party systems such as IT service management, workflow management systems and monitoring. The PowerShell script processing capabilities were extended to Microsoft Office 365 and Microsoft Azure Active Directory.
In 2017, the first PowerShell script collections were released as ActionPacks. The Public PowerShell script gallery for ScriptRunner is available on GitHub[3].
Further developments were the support of central password servers and multi-teams[4].
