The Schism between ROCOR and the OCA was a period between 1922 and 2007 in which both churches refused to recognize the legitimacy of each other, specifically within the territory of the United States and Canada.

Context

The first orthodox mission in America was established in 21 December, 1793 by Archimandrate Joasaph Bolotov in Kodiak, Alaska after a report of the harsh treatment of the native Aleuts at the hands of Russian traders in the region. In 1796, the Russian Orthodox Church established the episcopal see in Alaska, which would eventually become the Orthodox Church in America. Although the church continued to grow, it wouldn't be until 1868 when the [[first church was built in the contiguous United States in San Francisco.

In 1900, the bishop of Alaska Tikhon Bellavin petitioned to change the name of the see to the diocese of North America and Alaska,
