He has made more than 100 short films, screened at nationally and internationally acclaimed film festivals. He is widely known for his technical and technological know-how, screenplay writing, direction and public speaking. He left his job (at IIT Bombay) to be able to make meaningful short films and create films that can impact people and change their lives. He founded FridayFictionFilms in February, 2014 with an aim to make films every Friday. The inception of the 52 Films Project was seeded when Tanmay Shah was working as a Research Associate at IIT Bombay.

FridayFictionFilms is a creative film-making and communications company. The company brings video communication solutions for businesses and individuals by providing end-to-end solutions making Ad Films, Animation Films, Documentaries, Corporate Films, CSR Films and Short films. Established in 2012, with the aim of creating a difference with films, the venture is focused on a ‘like-no-other’ concept of making one film every week with “Zero Budget”. The movies – sometimes without dialogues and sometimes without music – focuses on social messages, believing a few minutes of subtle thought provoking videos can help make the society a better place. His venture for 2015 was '52 Films Project', to make 52 zero budget films a year and was taken up thinking to spread awareness that helps make our society a better place. We released one film every Friday on our YouTube channel. FridayFictionFilms has successfully completed 52 Films and is working in full force towards the goal of making socially relevant, thought-provoking films. When asked about how the concept of FridayFictionFilms came about he said,"I used to write lots of short stories before. These stories are now turning into film scripts. Film making happened, it was not planned. My first film, ‘Intend’ went into International Film Festival and that is when I left everything and worked in this area."[1]

When asked about the name of the company he said "I always write imaginative, fiction scripts, which are very short. And since, films are released on Friday, so the name stuck, ‘Friday Fiction Films.’ Also, being into IT industry before, website was a big deal and once I ventured into it, the first thing I did was to register a domain. Friday Fiction Films was free so we bought it. That is how, ‘Friday Fiction Films’ was born!

Many of his films like Wish, Intent, Change, have received recognition at international film festivals like Sydney Transgender International Film Festival , Yes! I am the change Film Festival etc. He has also conducted many workshops, seminars and judged events like Script Writing Workshop, Street play, Mime, Play, Seminar on Impact of language, Seminar on Leadership Skills in Entertainment, Film Making Workshop, Photography Workshop, Photoshop Workshop, Seminar on Decoding Interstellar, Short Film Making Workshop, etc at various reputed institutes of India like IIT Bombay, National Institute of Fashion Technlogy[2], Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University[3], H L Institute Of Commerce, Nirma University etc.

Many of his films are without dialogues. When asked about the difficulties related to it, he said," Yes, it is (Difficult). I started directing films with a friend who was Tamil. I could not understand or speak Tamil and he could not speak or understand Hindi. Language came as a major barrier here. Then, when I visited Dharavi, I saw that people could communicate so much with just a smile. So, I asked myself, ‘Is language really required?’ If I have to send my film to Africa, people should be able to relate to it. The visual effects will make them connect and understand it and that is what I want.[4]

After the success of 52 Films Project, Today Tanmay is busy in making corporate videos for organisations like InfiBeam, Asopalav, Levi's, Zydus Cadila, etc.[5]
