WHAT IS BS6?

BS-VI has a different impact on different categories so an example for a two-wheeler the impact is totally on the technology shift that is electronic fuel injection whereas for four-wheelers they are already having the technology for electronic fuel injection very viable.

ADVANTAGES OF BS6

· Sulphur would be now 5 times down from current BS4 levels.

· BS-VI fuel has 10ppm(parts per million) of sulfur as against BS4

· PM emissions reduced to 0.005g/km.

· Cars with BS-VI fuel emit 80% less particulate matter, 70% less nitrogen oxide

· Vehicles with emission control systems perform better with BS-VI

· Option of retrofitting in old vehicles.

So BS6 norms seem to cut out sulfur content to 10 parts per million to 50 parts per million. The sulfur at the gas contributes to particulate emissions, the engine higher sulfur content in the gas contributes to corrosion. BS-VI standards attempt to decrease.

WHY IS IT IMPORTANT TO HAVE BS-VI ENGINES?

BS6 or Bharat Stage VI is an emission norm sale instituted by the government of India to regulate to reduce the output of air pollutants from motor vehicles also known as a clean fuel. Environment Ministry is responsible for the decision of BS-VI fuel standard implementation in India. Central pollution control boards implement these emission standards which are based upon European emission standards criteria.

BS6 fuel the volume of pm 2.5 which is from 20 to 40 micrograms per cubic meter whereas BS6 fuel has a volume of up to 120 micrograms per cubic meter. By reducing toxic substances in air BS6 will help reducing air pollution as there’ll be much fewer air pollutants as compared to BS4. BS6 will lead to the reduction of smoke drastically that has a direct impact on the air quality, pollution is also the primary causes for health issues, respiratory issues which leads to the unhealthy environment so two-wheelers being one of the largest pollutants in the country, it clearly would impact the improvement in air quality.
