The BIB program in GEM is recognized by the french ministry of education under the name ‘Chargé d’affaires internationales’: less than a dozen schools in france can claim such a certification It is also ranked 1st in the 3-years bachelor in international business programs in France by ‘Le Parisien Etudiant’, a respected academic website. Needless to say, this program 100% of foreign, renowned teachers for a maximal immersion and learning experience in the attended courses. The BIB also benefits from the school’s triple accreditations (AMBA, AACSB, EQUIS) making her one of the 1% of schools worldwide to benefit this: this gives prestige to the school, which is reflected on the school and program. According to the school's official statistics for the 2016 prom, at the end of the program, 72% of students found employment within 2 months, with 85% of them working internationally in diverse sectors (Financial services, technology, human resources…).GEM also offers the possibility for its students to benefit a list of more than 165 academic partners to experience new ways to learn and increase their knowledge and adaptation capabilities on an international basis.
The first part of the team's survey, questioning BIB students within the Grenoble campus on topics covered in this (in academics for this part), showed that 97% of the students are satisfied with the quality of teachers and administration, 86% are satisfied with the time table and the assessment deadlines, and 76% are satisfied with the international dimension of the program.
Cultural Diversity
For the year 2016, 64 countries were represented, with diverse origins (86% of international students: 59% from Western Europe, 15% from Asia, 9% from North America), a good parity (54% of males, 46% of females). Several associations in GEM are international-friendly, making application possible to international students to help them to fit in a french work environment and to speak french often. Aloha, the international association of GEM, only recruits students who can speak more than 2 languages to help the integration of foreign students in Grenoble, by organizing several workshops concerning french administration, french tutoring, etc. Incoming exchange students are numerous in GEM: it is a continuous flow coming both ways, with GEM students coming to foreign universities, and foreign students coming to GEM. They are approximately 300, coming from all over the world, and with them, the school’s prestige and the student’s work ethics and behaviour are changed for the best.
Expanses
For students, the life in Grenoble is affordable, if you pick the right deal. When choosing an apartment in this beautiful town I would recommend to visit many before choosing your apartment. It is always good to get an idea of the price range. A 25m2 apartment that is linked to the School Grenoble Ecole de Management will cost around 649€ per month, whereas an apartment further away 80m2 could cost the same amount. According to students, they tend to spend 10 € a typical night out. The reasonable ones, around 5-10€ and the excessive spend between 10-30€. Make sure to take into account how much money you’re ready to spend in a month on nights out, in monthly budget. Generally, for grocery shopping our students pay 20-40€ for a week depending on how much alcohol they buy and how drastic the lack of food in their apartment is.
Gastronomy
In Grenoble loads of markets are organized. You may find some on Tuesdays, right next to the train station. There’s the organic local producers market on the market Europole; the farmers’ market in Vif; the Vizille, Meylan, Saint-Bruno’s Market, Saint Claire’s markets, and many more. These places are colourful and friendly, you can find fruits, vegetables, new cheeses, meat, honey, herbs…
One of Grenoble’s local dishes would be the ‘Gratin Dauphinois’, which is a simple dish and yet delicious. You may easily find the recipe on internet.
The “Iséroise” gastronomy has now officially a festival on the 25th of September from 10am to 6pm, where anyone is invited to look around to discover the local gastronomy, buy new products and join several activities.
Sports
While investigating the sports and hobbies GEM students did, it came out to a minimum of 1 sport or hobby and it is generally done at least twice a week. According to the survey, the most common activities mentioned were football,rugby, skiing and the gym. Skiing is the one sport that most students practice during winter in Grenoble knowing that the city offers a lot of Ski stations close by. Grenoble offers its mountains and slopes every year to its citizens and tourists, and this is one of the ways Grenoble generates revenue. The fact that students between 1-3 sports shows how active BIB students in GEM are. Below are the statistics on the survey about which sport/hobby students practice. Students that do a team sport such as football or rugby join a sport club and it is mostly the club that represents the University, GEM.
The second survey, about sports, showed that 87% of GEM students do sports, and that the 3 most popular sports in the school are skiing with 49% of interested students, Football with 36% of interested students, and basketball with 27% of interested students.
Nightlife
A student’s nightlife is one of the most memorable and important parts of their life in university. Students in GEM are in luck for being in Grenoble because there is an event almost every week and through the survey, GEM students go out for a drink at least once a week. Most students agree that the Nightclubs in Grenoble aren’t considered the best. Student mentioned that through the survey since more than half of the students have been to at least 2 Nightclubs. With all that said, students get creative and create what they consider fun, this is why the majority of GEM students are satisfied with the Nightlife in Grenoble.
Associations
As in all business schools, associative life is very active at Grenoble Ecole de Management with more than twenty associations that are responsible for 700 events each year. These are organized by students of the school, with budgets of almost 500,000 euros and teams of up to 60 students.
There are different kind of associations, separated in different departments:
-Student life, -Professional life, -Sports, -Gastronomy, -Events, -Communication -NGOs, -Culture, -Geopolitics, -Junior Company, -School’s shop.
Among all these associations, some have really come out of the box. for example « La Jaï », the school's junior company, this one is one of the 8 best of France.
« Le Dahu » also, this association lists all the good plans of the city of Grenoble in a book, a magazine. There are also all the discounts of the merchants and the best places to discover in Grenoble. According to Yelp, this special book ranks 2nd in the rankings of the city's top reviews.
The third part of our survey, about internships in the school, showed that 61% of interrogated BIB students are apart of an association, with 56% of them who were motivated by having a professional experience while 25% want to make their network wider.
Internships
2 internships in the program plus an additional year in industry if asked (however it must be accepted by the school’s admission board): Will make a minimum of 5 months of work experience at the end of the program. Finding an internship is easier with the school's career center with new daily job opportunities all over the world and across all sectors. In addition they also have a dedicated career office inside each campus to help students find the best possible career path and improve their employability by eliminating their weaknesses while perfecting their strengths.
First-year students rarely have professional experience, so the school can help them with its network and reputation, which leads the school to do career development. This course's purpose is to discover a position related to the courses of the business school and to discover the professional world. The school also organizes a dozen job fairs to help students build a strong and quality network as soon as possible in several areas. For example, in marketing, finance or other. For a first internship, it is often easier to do it in a commercial, marketing or financial environment if a career is considered. It is important to learn how to build relationships with clients. It is also possible to invest in an international context that generally makes students more autonomous and responsible. To find an internship you have to know yourself and know how to sell yourself. The important thing on the CV is to describe each lived experience, especially during summer jobs or in associations and to develop the skills acquired. Extracurriculars activities are also important, such as sport, they may have learned to work as a team, to follow instructions, to lead a group. Students can also talk about organizing an event: leadership, anticipation. In his CV, the student has to put the things he wants to talk about, hence the importance of the "hobbies" part.
A survey concerning internships for BIB students within the Grenoble campus says that the two most asked sectors to do internships in are Business (chosen by 34% of the asked students) and Marketing (chosen by 28% of the asked students), and most of these will be done abroad (75% of positives answers to this question).
