Dr Lust's primary research is based on child language acquisition. She used a theoretical and experimental perspective. Data from children acquiring 20+ world languages are being studied in the Cornell Language Acquisition Lab. Her research aims to identify not only the universal characteristics of child language acquisition across all languages and to analyse the nature of language development between the early stages of childhood but also in loss of language in ageing and dementia.
