Abdullah Bozkurt, 47, a journalist for over 20 years, is president of the Stockholm Center for Freedom (SCF), a monitoring group that tracks human rights violations in Turkey. He is also the director of the Nordic Research and Monitoring Network, which investigates terrorism, security, crime and extremism, and the author of Turkey Interrupted: Derailing Democracy. He founded the Muhabir News Agency, which was shut down by the Turkish government in July 2016. Bozkurt was also bureau chief for the Ankara-based daily Today’s Zaman, and served as its Washington, D.C. correspondent.

Biography

Abdullah Bozkurt was born in 1971 in Bandırma, Balıkesir. He graduated from Marmara University in 1993. He is currently married and has 2 daughters and 1 son. From 1994 to 1995, he worked at Marmara University, Institute of European Studies. He took his first step into journalism with Zaman Newspaper. For a period, he worked as the New York Bureau Chief and Washington Representative of Zaman Newspaper. Afterwards, he has continued to Turkey's best-selling English newspaper Today's Zaman in working life.

In March 2016, the operations carried out by the Justice and Development Party (Turkey) government for companies associated with the 'Hizmet Operation' were carried out. After these incidents, he was unfairly removed from his position as Ankara Representative of Today's Zaman.

In July 2016, injustices were made against journalists in the country following the fake coup theater organized by Recep Tayyip ERDOGAN and his team mates. After these events, he was forced to leave Turkey.

He was forced to live in exile in Sweden to get rid of Turkey's repression. Together with their friends, they are trying to make their voices heard all over the world through the 'Stockholm Center for Freedom' (SCF) organization, which defends the rule of law and the power of democracy.

In addition, together with his colleagues Levent and Murat, the 'Nordic Research and Monitoring' network works as an intelligence platform that tracks extremism, radicalism, movements, xenophobia and theorism.
