User:13Pigs/Evaluate an Article
![]() | Evaluate an article
Complete your article evaluation below. Here are the key aspects to consider: Lead sectionA good lead section defines the topic and provides a concise overview. A reader who just wants to identify the topic can read the first sentence. A reader who wants a very brief overview of the most important things about it can read the first paragraph. A reader who wants a quick overview can read the whole lead section.
ContentA good Wikipedia article should cover all the important aspects of a topic, without putting too much weight on one part while neglecting another.
Tone and BalanceWikipedia articles should be written from a neutral point of view; if there are substantial differences of interpretation or controversies among published, reliable sources, those views should be described as fairly as possible.
Sources and ReferencesA Wikipedia article should be based on the best sources available for the topic at hand. When possible, this means academic and peer-reviewed publications or scholarly books.
Organization and writing qualityThe writing should be clear and professional, the content should be organized sensibly into sections.
Images and Media
Talk page discussionThe article's talk page — and any discussions among other Wikipedia editors that have been taking place there — can be a useful window into the state of an article, and might help you focus on important aspects that you didn't think of.
Overall impressions
Examples of good feedbackA good article evaluation can take a number of forms. The most essential things are to clearly identify the biggest shortcomings, and provide specific guidance on how the article can be improved. |

Evaluate the article
[edit](Compose a detailed evaluation of the article here, considering each of the key aspects listed above. Consider the guiding questions, and check out the examples of what a useful Wikipedia article evaluation looks like.)
Lead section
[edit]- The lead section's introductory sentence is very relevant to the article's topic.
- The lead section doesn't seem to include descriptions of the sub-topics in this article (for example, there is no mention of history or Testing for students of color, those with disabilities, and those from low-income communities in the United States)
- This section is a little long and seems a little repetitive.
Content
[edit]- The content is all relevant to standardized tests and does also discuss some of the inequities caused by standardized testing.
Tone and Balance
[edit]- I feel that while the tone is neutral and both sides' opinions are included, more information is given as to why people critique standardized tests.
Sources and References
[edit]- The definition section feels as though it could use more citations.
- Same with the China, Australia, Colombia, and Canada subsections of the History section
- There are many more sections that also feel like they need more citation
Organization and Writing Quality
[edit]- The article is well-written, however, it is rather long and can be more concise in areas. I think that the sections generally make sense, but are not given equal page space. There were a few grammatical mistakes (incorrect capitalization).
Images and Media
[edit]- There are images in the article, though I don't really feel that they are necessary to understanding the article (though they are helpful in breaking up the page).
Talk Page Discussion
[edit]- There is not much discussion on the talk page. this surprised me because I feel like Standardized Testing is a hot topic right now, however, maybe since so many people already know about it, they don't feel the need to use/update the Wiki page.
- This article is a B-class article. It is a part of the WikiProject Education and the WikiProject Psychology.
Overall Impressions
[edit]- Overall, I feel like this article is accurate, but could use better/more references and citations. It could also be shorter, as I feel it is too long in parts that are not necessary.
