[edit]The follow sorts properly

H, G | 2.06 m (6 ft 9 in) | 102 kg (225 lb) | 36 – | 30 November 1988
while the proposed "better" version does not. so, stop breaking the sort. Frietjes (talk) 18:42, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

Try now with this example. Vasconia (talk) 09:05, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
- I see. I have added {{dts}} and changed the pointless {{age nts}} to {{age}} since {{dts}} provides the sort key. Frietjes (talk) 14:01, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

Suggestions from Basketball roster header
[edit]@Frietjes: there are 2 requests for improvement of {{player3}} at Template talk:Basketball roster header:
- Can the player link be turned off? I was wondering if setting
link=no
could disable linking all together, rather than forcing a redlink. - The flag in the
nat
(andnat2
) parameter always leads to that country's men's national team. Is there a way to tweak that – at a minimum making a switch to change to the women's national team when needed?
Hoof Hearted (talk) 14:05, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hoof Hearted, I implemented the first request. for the second request it's just a question of how this should be triggered
|natw=USA
would use{{bkwicon}}
overriding|nat=USA
using{{bkicon}}
|type=bkw
or|type=w
could trigger using{{bkwicon}}
instead of{{bkicon}}
|women=y
- something else?
- let me know what you think. Frietjes (talk) 16:35, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Frietjes, thanks. I thought something like #3 would be easiest, but I'm also using it at Heartfire (TBT) (copied from Blue Collar U) where linking to the nationality (United States) makes more sense than United States men's national basketball team. Teams in The Basketball Tournament are not affiliated with national teams - players are simply American, or South Korean, etc. Perhaps I'm misusing this set of roster templates, but I didn't see a better one. Hoof Hearted (talk) 17:03, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hoof Hearted, I don't know if there is a better roster template for that case. if we want to allow other sports and generic country flags, then #2 is the most extensible without having a whole load of parameters in each use. but, if this is going to be a national-basketball-team only template, then #1 or #3 work well. or we could have a simple
|flag=
option which takes a free-form input flag as input. Frietjes (talk) 17:35, 14 March 2025 (UTC) - it looks like {{player2}} has a generic national flag, not associated with a national team. Frietjes (talk) 17:37, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- No need to completely rewrite the template for my fringe case use. I think leaving it connected to national teams makes sense for the vast majority of template uses, so maybe #1 or #3 will help for women's teams.
- I avoided {{player2}} for its "school" (or college) column. Although most TBT players played college basketball, it's not a direct succession. I'd say a majority of players currently play in overseas leagues, and only play in The Tournament during the off season. Still, I wasn't aware {{player2}} had a
nat
parameter, so I may play around with that. Hoof Hearted (talk) 17:56, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- for example, like this? feel free to revert if you don't like it :) Frietjes (talk) 17:43, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- I think that's a winner! Hoof Hearted (talk) 17:57, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Hoof Hearted, great. for the linking to the women's national team I added
|women=y
or the shorter|w=y
option. Frietjes (talk) 18:08, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
