Seasons not years

[edit]

In the 'domestic team information' section should the first column not be titled seasons rather than years as per the Brett Lee example it is 1997/98–2010/11 rather than 1997-2010. JP (Talk) 09:23, 6 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

This would be a really good idea. Blue Square Thing (talk) 11:10, 25 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

"Domestic team information" question...

[edit]

Before starting, I agree with an above post that there should be six columns. The Chris Gayles and Kieron Pollards of the world aren't done justice by having their T20 domestic stats unlisted. (Gayle also is best with his ListA stats documented, as he was good in that format when he played it.) The bigger issue I have is that, as cricketers represent more teams, there needs to be a better way to consolidate the teams in the "Domestic team information" column. The format, right now, is to put a misplaced footnote on the first team listed saying that "Only clubs that cricketer has played for for more than one season are included in this list." Is there a better way we can do this? It can be as simple as allowing that footnote in the team information header, or having that header renamed (something like "major domestic teams", perhaps, even though I'm not digging the wording) to better apply to those who travel globally to whatever T20 league is happening. Anything is better than indiscriminately adding a footnote that doesn't apply to that team. I hope this makes sense. -- JustJamie820 (talk) 08:21, 9 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Six columns simply doesn't fit. There are plenty of better ways we can do this table, but there has never been consensus for a different version. Harrias (he/him) • talk 14:24, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Unless you made the infobox wider, I do get that it would be difficult to stuff six formats into one of them. I thought all six were there at one point, though I may well have imagined that (I do have a tendnecy to imagine things). I'll work within the framework of what's there right now for columns, but there does need to be some consensus on what to do with the other two columns. I will admit that Gayle's article has a nice idea of putting domestic T20 stats by league in a separate box, however. - JustJamie820 (talk) 20:58, 12 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
If you can find a better way to do these things please experiment in the sandbox. The teams note is the only way I've ever found to be able to do this sensibly, but a better way of dealing with this would be helpful no doubt.
The major problems I see with infoboxes (other than straight out vandalism) are things being way out of date (10 years plus at times – T20 stats are particularly vulnerable to this), teams being listed that someone didn't play for, and them being too long – especially when articles themselves are quite short. We've debated many times cutting things down to make them shorter so as to allow other things to be added, but no one can ever decide where to cut things off and we end up with essentially the same things, plus some more that people want. New parameter

[edit]

This is to request that a signature parameter be added to the cricketer infobox for those players whose signature is available. Actors and other public figures have that parameter in their infoboxes, cricketer infoboxes can also provide that option. OCDD (talk) 17:18, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, a "career awards" section section like the basketball player infobox. OCDD (talk) 17:31, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Can you name any cricketers who have a famous enough signature for us to be able to source it adequately? And why add career awards? The infobox is already bloated enough with stats for all three formats. Just add any honours in their own section further down the article. – PeeJay 17:43, 24 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Fair, the career awards can remain in the sections but as for the signature, most of the popular cricketers have signatures that can be shown in the infobox. Since Virat Kohli was mentioned, he is on the list. The signature parameter, once added, can be used by multiple pages since their signs are readily available. OCDD (talk) 09:15, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
But cricketers aren't known for their signatures. What is the actual point of adding it? I don't even think it's needed for most people, let alone cricketers. – PeeJay 11:45, 26 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Career awards would end up with an awfully long infobox. Can you imagine Virat Kohli#Awards and honours being added? That infobox is already bloated by the medal templates - which we really should find a way of auto collapsing like they are in cycling infoboxes, for example. Annotations for spouse

[edit]

The description for the {{{family}}} field says "followed by relationship in ()s. (e.g. Adam Hollioake (brother))". Is this also true for spouses? Using the {{marriage}} template includes information about the marriage: the year(s) and the text "m.". So if you know what "m." means or are curious enough to hover over it, you know this is a marriage. But if you don't, you don't know what this relationship is. Should these entries be annotated "(spouse)" (or "husband" or "wife"). That would be redundant for the fact that it's a marriage, but clearer for readers and in sync with all the other relationships that might exist. The {{marriage}} template use examples are in a {{{spouse}}} field—some/many biographical infoboxes have a field that explcitly labels this relationship, but {{Infobox cricketer}} does not. Ping User:OCDD based on trying to resolve an issue raised at a talkpage. DMacks (talk) 14:34, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I shouldn't think it matter that much. I probably wouldn't bother using a marriage template, but other people might so that's OK Blue Square Thing (talk) 15:14, 12 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Template-protected edit request 28 May 2025

[edit]

I am requesting that in the stats column that the number of available columns for stats be raised from the existing 4 to 6. It is truly needed. I want to put information on players in but can't fit all formats since it only allows 4. There have been edits on articles like Steve Smith and Joe Root where a user has been changing the formats of the stats and I have had to change them back. It would be extremely helpful if we could have stats in all 6 formats to cover all three formats in Domestic and International Cricket. And yes, local T20 stats and international leagues should be combined. Example to explain what I am saying: "David Warner's Domestic T20 Stats (Big Bash League) should not be separate from his stats in foreign T20 leagues (E.G. IPL, PSL stats combined with BBL for T20 stats ETC). Thank you Servite et contribuere (talk) 07:52, 28 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]
