NASA FIRMS entry added
I just went ahead and added an entry for NASA's Fire Information for Resource Management System (FIRMS), my first change to this template (and possibly to any template). I did see the instructions about getting consensus here - but thought at the time that my discussion over here was what that referred to. So apologies in advance. Hope I didn't break anything... Lklundin (talk) 15:29, 13 October 2024 (UTC) PS. In addition to "thermal anomalies" FIRMS displays a map with global coverage in decent resolution, using just a browser - and it being from NASA means it's free to use f.ex. here on Wikipedia. So really quite useful, I would say.

I propose an edit to add direct links to the web view of Google Earth.
Change this line:
| [{{fullurl:toollabs:geocommons/earth.kml|latdegdec={latdegdec}&londegdec={londegdec}&scale={scale}&title={titlee}}} w/ meta data]
to this:
| [{{fullurl:toollabs:geocommons/earth.kml|latdegdec={latdegdec}&londegdec={londegdec}&scale={scale}&title={titlee}}} w/ meta data], [https://earth.google.com/web/@{latdegdec},{londegdec},0a,{scale}d,1y,0h,60t,0r Web]

- Since Google Earth is now based in the web browser, this proposal is very interesting. Mikelo (talk) 14:10, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
- I have added the link. --тнояsтеn ⇔ 19:09, 14 October 2024 (UTC)
Add wdlocator tool?
I've made a little tool for showing Wikidata items' geometry and photo status: toolforge:wdlocator. It might be suitable for adding to the list here. Sam Wilson 04:00, 22 January 2025 (UTC)
Germany missing
What happened to Germany‘s entry? ZH8000 (talk) 22:59, 20 January 2025 (UTC)
- @ZH8000: It was removed almost twelve years ago, by Dispenser (talk · contribs), who is no longer around. They appear to have been expunging some dead websites. --Redrose64 🌹 (talk) 23:30, 20 January 2025 (UTC)

Return is blocked
Since a few weeks, if I have switched from a the Commmons category of a building to its geo location (to see the surroundings in Google satellite and streetview or to see its name in Openstreetmap), it is impossible return to the category.--Ulamm (talk) 16:28, 5 February 2025 (UTC)
United States National Map Viewer long standing fault
I have finally discovered where and how to fix this. Uncle G (talk) 10:08, 21 February 2025 (UTC)
GeoHive
Hi User:Uncle G, you have added GeoHive but it does not work. For example Dublin directs to this URL: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=3ae19cc156bf4706a929304bf8fcc4f6&marker=%7Blongdegdec%7D%2C%7Blatdegdec%7D%2C4326&level=12 --тнояsтеn ⇔ 09:20, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
- That might be an undocumented interaction between
{{urlencode:}}
and GeoHack. It's just not substituting in the variables, which is certainly not what prior discussions on this talkpage or the documentation suggest. Let's see what happens when it is taken out. Uncle G (talk) 20:21, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks. After I've fixed also one parameter [1], the URL in the Dublin example looks like this now: https://www.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=3ae19cc156bf4706a929304bf8fcc4f6&marker=-6.260278%2C53.35%2C4326&level=12
- That is unfortunaltely still not opening the map but leading to the ArcGIS login. --тнояsтеn ⇔ 21:17, 9 March 2025 (UTC)
- There's not much documentation, but the main WWW site provides a URL with an
id=
parameter, so I kept it in. Without that parameter, it bypasses the login screen. Of course, logging in also takes one to the right place afterwards. But omitting that parameter breaks things, as it denotes GeoHive, picking the right basemap gallery. The other thing to try is GeoHive's dedicated subdomain, which is not the URL that GeoHive tells people to go to. That still seems to require theid=
parameter to select the right basemap gallery, though. Uncle G (talk) 19:24, 10 March 2025 (UTC)
- Seems to work. Thanks --тнояsтеn ⇔ 20:25, 10 March 2025 (UTC)

"More formats" leads to a 502 Bad Gateway error
I depended on the "More formats" feature to add coordinates from Wikidata to articles. Clicking on it anymore brings me to a 502 Bad Gateway message; everything else works fine. I've waited months for someone else to comment on having experienced this but that never happened so I'm reluctantly bringing it up just now. Salmoonlight (talk) 18:59, 20 March 2025 (UTC)
