Template:Edit template-protected is permanently protected from editing because it is a heavily used or highly visible template. Substantial changes should first be proposed and discussed here on this page. If the proposal is uncontroversial or has been discussed and is supported by consensus, editors may use {{edit extended-protected}} to notify an administrator, template editor or extended-confirmed editor to make the requested edit. Usually, any contributor may edit the template's documentation to add usage notes or categories.

Any contributor may edit the template's sandbox. Functionality of the template can be checked using test cases.

This page is not for proposing or discussing edits to protected pages.

To request or propose a change to a page that you are not able to edit, place a message on its talk page. If the page is template-protected, you may attract the attention of a template editor to make the change by placing the {{edit template-protected}} template above your request. Requests placed here will probably be removed or ignored.

Improve usage documentation semantics

Suggest showing a sample template

When visiting Template:Edit template-protected, I notice the template doesn't render at all. Might be worth getting it to display on that page so people can see what it looks like. Extended-confirmed-protected edit request on 28 March 2025

It is requested that an edit be made to the extended-confirmed-protected template at Template:Edit template-protected.
(edit · history · last · links · sandbox · edit sandbox · sandbox history · sandbox last edit · sandbox diff · test cases · transclusion count · protection log)

This template must be followed by a complete and specific description of the request, that is, specify what text should be removed and a verbatim copy of the text that should replace it. "Please change X" is not acceptable and will be rejected; the request must be of the form "please change X to Y".

The edit may be made by any extended confirmed user. Remember to change the |answered=no parameter to "yes" when the request has been accepted, rejected or on hold awaiting user input. This is so that inactive or completed requests don't needlessly fill up the edit requests category. You may also wish to use the {{EEp}} template in the response. Consider making changes first to the template's sandbox and test them thoroughly here before submitting an edit request. To request that a page be protected or unprotected, make a protection request.

I think the |ans= parameter should not be mentioned when the template is set to |answered=yes or |ans=yes, because when that message is shown, it means the parameter has already been added. Also, it wastes valuable space for nothing. It's uncommon for the status of an edit request to be reverted, and giving two different parameter option is useless. Sometimes, The template does not display the answered= parameter in the source. It would simply be, {{edit extended-protected}} without the "answered" parameter. In these cases, editors have to manually add the parameter and some may prefer |ans= over the other one because it is more convienient.
