Question about usage in sports articles

[edit]

I edit lots of articles related to WP:WHOCKEY, including many statistics boxes. There are many common statistics used in these boxes, such as GP and SV%. Sometimes, the stats boxes only use the {{abbr}} template in the table header row (example 1), and sometimes (example 2) there's a textual explanation given before the table, in addition to using the {{abbr}} template in the table headers.

Which is preferred? --MikeVitale 16:51, 17 November 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Tooltips on mobile

[edit]

Mathglot, regarding, "On mobile devices, tooltips are typically accessed through long press (tap-and-hold) or single tap on the associated element." Perhaps I don't understand what it means, but I tried on two different phones and different browsers can't get the tooltip from {{abbr}} or {{tooltip}} to display with any kind of press. When I searched online, I just see pages saying that it doesn't work on mobile and offering ideas to create mobile tooltips with CSS & JavaScript. Rjjiii (talk) 21:16, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@Rjjiii: thanks for the feedback; I have reverted that until this can be sorted. What happens when you single-tap this text on mobile? It should also be decorated with dotted underline; is it? Mathglot (talk) 21:41, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, never mind; I was seeing simulated hover text, so the original doc was correct. My error. Mathglot (talk) 21:46, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's all good. Tbf, it is pretty odd for mobile browsers to render the dotted underline (....) below abbreviations if they don't offer any way to access the text. Rjjiii (talk) 02:56, 14 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
