Conflict of Interest

[edit]

On September 18, 2025 an entity independently published one of Richard Wyckoff’s old books (from hereon: “Book”) with modern annotations and started selling the Book on Amazon.com in multiple languages (English example: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0FRS4L67C). The annotations in the Book preview are superficial, with grammatical errors and typos, and may reflect a cheap or AI-generated attempt to quickly add a modicum of value to a reprinted public-domain work and sell that at a profit (this tactic is currently a known issue on Amazon).

On September 19, one day after Book’s publication, a user created an exclusively Wyckoff-focused and aptly-named Youtube channel (“Channel”): www.youtube.com/@RichardWyckoffTradingMethods.

One September 20, one day after Channel’s creation, the “Wyckoff Method” Wikipedia article (“Article”)—flagged for AI content (see Article creation history and current tag)—was created by a “User” (Wikipedia username: Joshua-mbg) that (based on the history thus far) appears explicitly set up for this Article’s creation (overlooking the User’s initial, possibly Potemkin, edit).

One September 22, two days after Article went “live” on Wikipedia, Channel began publication of AI-assisted videos solely relevant to Wyckoff and the supposed “Wyckoff Method”. The video descriptions (ex: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G0Dklsi8WJM) link back to the Book in multiple languages on Amazon.com, thereby completing the circle and the possible co-option of Wikipedia’s reputation for commercial purposes.

The details of this sequence of events (Sep. 18, 19, 20, 22), in context of the topic, are unlikely a simple coincidence.

Important: in Pageview Analysis (90 day+ lookback), note the spikes in traffic to this Article and the highly unusual spikes to the Wikipedia article titled “Richard Wyckoff”. They coincide with Channel’s launch and/or the waxing-waning popularity of Channel’s videos.

This possibly means this Article is an attempt at implicitly using Wikipedia’s reputational authority to help sell tech analysis products, and game SEO and EEAT, at the expense of the unsuspecting public. A public that may use Wikipedia to check the veracity of what they saw on Youtube. Once a subset of the public checks the Article’s content and reads the Article’s current statements, like “The Wyckoff Method remains relevant across markets, including stocks, forex, and digital asset”, they are more likely to feel comfortable making a purchasing decision that will help a commercial interest.

I checked: Cleaning up this Article of biased sources and related text would rid it of most of its content and leave an empty shell.

Had this Article’s topic, the supposed method used by Richard Wyckoff, been notable-enough, it would’ve likely been created sometime in the past 25 years. It wasn’t, despite an article dedicated to the man himself having been live since 2009. An article I had to spend a lot of time ridding of commercial vandalism, tacit commercial interests, and outright falsehoods.

I suggest banning User and deleting Article.   Drjuanrodriguez (talk) 13:11, 1 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
