Quality of life

[edit]

Is there an updated number for what a game developer can I make on average because 2007 is more than a decade ago by now. Muffinman216 (talk) 03:31, 12 December 2024 (UTC)[reply]

The 'Racial' section

[edit]

It seems rather Americentrist to me to be pointing out only statistics of America and then using those to state that there's "a significant gap in racial minorities within the video game industry"

I'm not sure about whether to incorporate foreign statistics (and where to find them), or if just adding the word "American" between 'the' and 'videogame industry' would be appropriate. 186.79.215.27 (talk) 23:26, 26 January 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Video game developerGame developerGame developer – Given that "game developer" was recently determined to be a WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT, there doesn't seem to be a need to retain the "video" part per WP:CONCISE. In contrast to game designer vs. video game designer, "developer" implies digital games, making it clear that they are video games. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 03:41, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose There are non-video game developers (eg board games). While those have traditionally been called "designers" as opposed to "developers" the terms are too close in meaning that it would be improper to treat "game developer" and "game designer" as equivalent terms. To add, in doing some searching, "[board] game developer" more often seems to reflect the companies involved in board game creation, whereas "[board] game designer" reflects the individuals involved. In video game space, "game developer" can be either the individual or the studio level. Basically, there's a bunch of conflicts with these terms that it would still be wrong to eliminate "video" for sake of conciseness. Masem (t) 03:59, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The issue is not whether it's the only thing that the term can apply to, that can be handled on the DAB page, but whether it's primary for the term as the most-used definition of it, which it is, or else it wouldn't redirect here. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ () 04:52, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
No, that's not how this is being presented. "video game developer" is the full term, and you're asking for the move to a more concise name, but that concise name by default incorporates other possible roles and professions that involve game development that are not related to video games, and that's going to give the wrong impression. For all purposes, "video game" is the adjective modifying "developer" in English, not "video" modifying "game developer", as well. Masem (t) 12:06, 24 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
