Desktop OS marketshare numbers are WAY off
[edit]In February 2023, Windows holds 57.37% of the desktop OS market in the US, macOS holds 29.62% and Chrome OS holds 7.47% so the numbers in this article are either outdated or completely made up 2600:1702:5342:9600:0:0:0:10 (talk) 18:39, 19 July 2023 (UTC)
- The article is about global marketshare, I have checked and the numbers are correct. 12think (talk) 09:41, 14 November 2023 (UTC)
- You are referring to shipments or usage? Could you please give us that source from February 2023? Svilenov 14:46, 24 July 2023 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Svilenov (talk • contribs)
Windows under 50% of desktop in some countries, even down to cs. 20% – because of Android?!
[edit]See: this map. E.g. Guinea, Congo (DRC); and here because of "Chrome for Android" seemingly explaining "Unknown" desktop. comp.arch (talk) 00:49, 3 February 2024 (UTC)
- Well done for spotting that "Unknown" could largely be explained by Chrome for Android. Just checked Desktop Operating System Market Share Congo (DRC) Mar 2024 - Feb 2025: Windows is 15% vs Unknown is 81%. I google this, "navigator.userAgent property in JavaScript, although it's important to note that this method can be spoofed and is increasingly being deprecated by browsers." This may explain why Statcounter can't always determine the OS under the browser. 12think (talk) 07:09, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
What does Worldwide device shipments have to do with Usage share of operating systems?
[edit]The two are only tangentially related. Worldwide device shipments should have its own article, and the section in this article needs to be shortened and have a link to that. Kai Johnstone (talk) 14:01, 8 February 2024 (UTC)
- Usage share is an estimate based on recorded web usage, so not very accurate, just an indication, people don't web browse from a watch or most embedded devices. Worldwide shipments is another way of looking at the numbers, but this looked like a mess to me the last time I looked, old facts etc. 12think (talk) 06:48, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
Why doesn’t the meta horizon OS and watch OS feature in this article ?
[edit]Operating systems should span across devices used by human beings for their personal or professional computing needs.
So the lack of sections for XR headset and smartwatch OS sections is glaring 98.247.232.251 (talk) 04:51, 16 August 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think anyone knows how to count XR headsets and smartwatch OSs, does anyone have any ideas? 12think (talk) 06:51, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
