Article overview and purpose

[edit]

This list article documents the history, custody, and calibration records of the International Prototype of the Kilogram (IPK) and its official/national copies. Its scope includes:

  • Provenance and allocation of each prototype
  • Measurement data from official verification campaigns, with emphasis on the 1889 certification, second verification (c. 1953), and third verification (1988–1992)
  • Notable events affecting mass stability, such as cleaning, recalibration, or transfer between custodians

The aim is to maintain a continuity‑safe, citation‑rich record that is both technically rigorous and accessible to non‑specialist readers. All data are referenced to published, reliable sources (e.g., BIPM publications, *Metrologia*, national metrology institute reports) with page‑level citations where possible. Editorial decisions about formatting, table structure, and note style are made for long‑term clarity, stability, and compatibility with Wikipedia’s sourcing and style guidelines.

The initially published version of this list incorporated only the information and sourcing from the main International Prototype of the Kilogram article. It will be expanded to cover additional detail from other sources beyond the scope of the original page.Dhaluza (talk) 20:55, 14 August 2025 (UTC)[reply]

  • Comment: Not a review but, I bolded the article you are nominating and italized the pictured. Please do this next time when you are nominating. Thanks.

Starting review ...

  • Hook fact verifies against source and article.
  • Overall, sourcing looks excellent and properly cited.
  • No obvious copyvio problems from Earwig
  • The image is not a great photo. There's tons of photos of IPKs, I'm sure a better example could be found. I recommend not using this image.
  • The nomination eligibility is based on WP:5X of text originally in another article. Unfortunately, most of the added material is in a large table and WP:DYKPROSE says prose size ... should exclude ... tables. Much as I would love to see this topic on the main page, unless I'm misunderstanding the requirement, this is a problem which will need a substantial rewrite to resolve. @Dhaluza: hasn't edited in nearly a month, and given that this doesn't seem to be anywhere near a 5x expansion I'm marking this for closure.--Launchballer 16:11, 19 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
