Huh?
[edit]The following comment:
A fun fact: during The Civil War in the US Marine corp, it was taboo for a Marine to not have a sling for his Springfield. Officers were instructed to watch these troops like you would the suicidal.
in this article ... doesn't make a lot of sense. What was the problem with the sling? What is meant by "these troops" and why were they watched so carefully? I found some clear vandalism on this page and corrected it, maybe this is somebody's idea of a gag.

Cartridge?
[edit]I believe it would be more accurate to refer to the Minié ball as a "projectile", as a "cartridge" is usually comprised of bullet, primer and powder, all contained in a brass shell, ready to be breech-loaded, rather than being loaded piecemeal down the muzzle. I intend to change this, if no one objects within a few days. rags (talk) 03:50, 20 April 2017 (UTC)

Just bad
[edit]After reading the article I have no clear idea how this rifle? functions. 1. Is it a rifle? That is, is the barrel rifled? 2. Is it breech loaded? 3. What is loaded? → a primer cap?, loose black powder? a black powder cartridge?, and a "ball"? 3 things? 2 things? 1 thing?. (and are the various items loaded into the same opening?) Furthermore, the editors need to fix the typos. Use of "further" instead of "farther" is one example.98.22.50.44 (talk) 21:42, 10 July 2025 (UTC)
- The term used at that time was rifle-musket or rifled musket. One should click the link to Minie ball to find out more on the projectile. The wiki links should take you to articles answering your questions. Boo Boo (talk) 00:11, 13 July 2025 (UTC)
