I am firmly against changing the phrase "Before 1984, now actions:" to "Before 1984:". China Youth Service & Recreation Center is conservative, not liberal. ProKMT (talk) 09:07, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

China Youth Service & Recreation Center is not conservative (HK), it was a mistype without a source. Guotaian (talk) 09:08, 17 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Templates

[edit]

@Guotaian: In the current article, there are too many templates. Of course, the Pro-ROC camp belongs to 'liberalism in Hong Kong' and 'conservatism in Taiwan', but there are too many templates, which distorts the image placement and even lowers the readability.[1] So I think we need to remove the 2 templates.[2] ProKMT (talk) 08:48, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Requested a third opinion. Unlike the article's talk page, in the article's history, there were countless debates and editorial wars through edit summaries. ProKMT (talk) 08:57, 19 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Handover of Hong Kong to Republic of China

[edit]

Was there ever an idea to handover of Hong Kong from the United Kingdom to the Republic of China (ROC)? Eurohunter (talk) 10:52, 31 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Please see Hong Kong–Taiwan relations , particularly Hong Kong during World War II and After World War II MowerBreeze (talk) 04:38, 7 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
No, and the idea that the United Kingdom would hand territory back to the regime they were desperate to switch recognition to the PRC to in 1950 is laughable. ~2026-17228-1 (talk) 02:36, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
Considering the complexed historical background of the constant civil wars, the dictatorships with no intention for democracy for 20 years, but the Kuomintang's corruption and its endless power struggles, which deeply embedded in the Party-state (黨國) nature of the ROC throughout its regime in Chinese mainland till its Taiwan era (1928-1990s), there is an evident reason and wisdom in Winston Churchill's important decision to protect the Pearl of the Orient" from the White Terror of Taiwan with the British standard of human rights, freedoms and the economical prosperity on top of all the other Chinese states, that extended Hong Kong's golden years from 1950s to the peak of 1980s, while Taiwan was still in the 38-year-long Martial law era with critical cases remaining unsolved till today. Please see this case of "Formosa Strait Patrol" operation (1949-1954), where the Royal Navy rescued civilian merchandise ships of Hong Kong from Chiang Kai-shek regime's 141 naval attacks, confiscations and kidnaping hostages on the international seaways for an example. --Mickie-Mickie (talk) 04:41, 9 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
