It is important to mention who owns the browser

[edit]

For some reason the fact that it is owned by Chinese consortium, is unknown to most of the people who use it. 2A06:C701:4903:A200:FC72:201F:F603:C1F7 (talk) 21:37, 13 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Ooh, a conspiracy theorist, huh? I'm 2 years late for the party, but, man. If you think that Opera is owned by China, maybe try looking for Opera in Poland. The Master of Hedgehogs (converse) (hedgehogs) 19:47, 8 February 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There is no conspiracy. Since 2020, Opera is a subsidiary of Kunlun Tech Co. LTD. A Beijing based company owned by Zhou Yahui. While there is no public evidence of information sharing; by virtue of now being owned by a Chinese company, Opera is subject to the mandatory data sharing policy of the Chinese Government.
At the very least, that is worth mentioning. Taffy-nay (talk) 11:37, 16 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Selling data

[edit]

I’m surprised there’s no information about how everyone was super pissed after they allegedly sell their data to china, should this be added? 104.169.12.147 (talk) 08:59, 12 July 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Updates to the Opera Air subsection

[edit]

Hello editors, my name is Derek and I am an editor with a conflict of interest. I'll be requesting some proposed edits to the page and was wondering if anybody was interested in taking a look at my first request.

The Opera Air subsection is all sourced from the Opera website. I would like to suggest replacing the primary sites with reliable, independent news articles and updating the subsection's text to reflect the new sources. See below for my proposed replacement:

Opera Air is a web browser released by Opera in February 2025.[1] It has features that focus on mindfulness and relaxation to combat doomscrolling.[2] The browser incorporates tools for relaxation and focus, such as Take-a-break reminders, customizable meditation and stretching exercises, and a Boosts feature that plays ambient sounds, music, and binaural beats. These tools and exercises are in the browser’s sidebar.[3]

Very nice first request! You can checkmark Go ahead with these changes, I don't see anything contentious with this. Having said that, is the access date on the last citation a typo? - Umby 🌕🐶 (talk) 02:51, 11 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for you quick review and support! Yes, that was a typo on the last citation - I'll fix it when I make the change. DerekOkon (talk) 13:40, 12 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Additions to the Opera Features section

[edit]

Hello again editors! This is Derek - an editor with a conflict of interest. I have a new request for additions to this page.

The Opera_(web_browser)#Features section is missing details on individual features, including many that are not mentioned there. I would like to suggest adding subsections for each feature, all sourced from reliable, independent news articles. I have a list of 19 features I’d like to add, but wanted to start with these two, in case there’s any feedback. Here are the first two:

Ad Blocker

The Opera desktop and mobile browsers include a native ad blocking feature which was first added in 2016.[1] The feature is off by default, but can be activated in the browser’s settings. Users can disable or enable ad-blocking or tracker-blocking for specific sites via the shield icon in the address bar.[2]

Free VPNThe Opera browser includes a built-in VPN introduced in 2016.[3] The VPN is enabled through the browser’s settings[4] and is described as free and no‑log.[5] It hides a user’s actual location by routing their connection through servers distributed worldwide. It was extended to mobile browsers in 2019.[6]

Thank you again for your help! DerekOkon (talk) 18:41, 17 November 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Note: 19 features is a lot! I think the best way to go about this is to consolidate them all into a few paragraphs. For example, in your "Ad Blocker" section, the last two sentences are too detailed/promotional and not needed; I think the first one is enough. Same thing with the VPN. Sourcing looks okay, and thank you for the way in which you have formatted your request. GoldRomean (talk) 04:11, 15 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Already done: We already have info about the adblocker and the VPN. Children Will Listen (🐄 talk, 🫘 contribs) 13:29, 16 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
