More explanation needed

As a reader who doesn't know this term, I still don't understand it after reading this. Could more, and more simple, explanation be added? For example, I just learnt about exponentiation from the clear explanation there. I'd recommend removing the phrase "As is well known"... as I suspect people like me reading this page on Simple English wikipedia do *not* already know what 'integers', 'quotient' and 'remainders' are. --Emain Macha (talk) 10:29, 12 December 2019 (UTC)
