created the article to fill in the missing interface type

not sure if this is a suitable article title, but clearly there was a gap, as it is insufficiently precise to call this type of application "MDI". Perhaps Tiling window manager can fill the gap?

That's a good article, but the two are sufficiently distinct that a merger of the two concepts does not seem entirely appropriate. There is enough similarity, however, that it would make sense to have both as "see also" entries to one another. Few google hits...

I think this article should remain separate since it is describing a particular user interface used by many software applications today. From that perspective, I don't think it fits in the main IDE article anymore. The article text suggests that IDE-style interface is an decedent or superset of Multiple Document Interface (MDI). Follow-up: I posted a reference desk question in an effort to dig out whether a name for this actually exists. The term "IDE-style interface" does have a few hits, but none of them particularly definitive (i.e., forum discussion threads on how to program Visual Basic, etc, admittedly dubious as a cite). This seems like an article that falls under the named topic dilemma. So one question is whether the winds and wills of the Wikipedians will deem the content is even keepable. It doesn't really seem definitive and noteworthy enough to have its own article, but I think it's noteworthy enough to not delete the content. I think the best route is to merge to Multiple Document Interface, (as suggested by Janus657) since IDE-style seems like sort of a sub-genre to MDI. Timbatron 20:51, 14 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Very bad article

This article is not very good. There are plenty of IDE's out there that do not use MDI. An IDE is a collection of tools that work together. It does not imply the type of GUI at all. Some consider the unix command line environment an IDE.
