Resources to update article

[edit]

The article is over a year out of date, so I compiled some links to help other editors get the page fixed up. Since it would be a COI for me to edit the article, I'm not going to - or even to suggest text. These are just links to publications by DDoSecrets and reporting on it.

I saw your message on WT:JOURNALISM. Can you please provide a brief summary of the most important things you see are missing from the article? Thanks, MediaKyle (talk) 03:39, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for responding. The biggest and simplest thing to update is the publications section, which appears to have nothing in it after July of last year. Each row of links above represents a notable release by DDoSecrets, with the most significant being the Epstein emails, the Boris Files, the Ehud Barak emails, the TeleMessage data, and the three Paramilitary releases. Each link to DDoSecrets leads to a summary of the dataset, and links to research and background information.
Let me know if you'd like more information, or if there's anything I can do to help. My goal as an editor is to be helpful and uncontroversial, so I'm trying to be careful around anything I have a COI for and avoid any direct edits (save for reverting obvious vandalism, etc.) 𝚄𝚗𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝙶𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚌𝚑 (We are currently clean on OPSEC.) 03:48, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Mineral Resources Authority of Papua New Guinea could also be noted under Censorship, since it prompted an attempt at censorship (see link above). 𝚄𝚗𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝙶𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚌𝚑 (We are currently clean on OPSEC.) 03:57, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'll take a shot at adding a bit for you, and at least cover the most significant publications. You should know that you're not totally barred from contributing to this article; if you wanted to, you could for example write a draft section in your sandbox (User:Unown Glitch/sandbox) and leave a link here for others to review -- we have an edit requests system as well which you can use to draw attention to requests for specific changes. Beyond reverting vandalism, it's also generally considered appropriate for a COI editor to fix minor statements of fact (i.e., I wrote 2010 but the source says 2011). If you have any questions about this let me know, I appreciate that you're doing your best to navigate our quirky rules. Cheers, MediaKyle (talk) 04:02, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks, and yeah I'm trying to be very mindful of the rules. I also want to be boring enough as an editor here that bloggers and podcasters can't spin it into anything other than a fun fact. Once bitten, twice shy when it comes to harassment. 𝚄𝚗𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝙶𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚌𝚑 (We are currently clean on OPSEC.) 04:38, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the edits. The only thing that jumped out at me as an error is this:
"In August, DDoSecrets released a collection of Jeffrey Epstein's emails spanning from 2013 to 2016."
This seems to conflate two datasets. The Ehud Barak emails [82] include a thousand emails between Barak and Epstein, specifically in that time period. There is another dataset which we have since published, which is Epstein's email inbox [83], this covers a 19 year period, starting in 2002 and ending in 2021. Thanks for letting me know, I made an adjustment. I'm finding the coverage between the two rather confusing... I'll see if I can draw in somebody who knows more about all this Epstein stuff, this is turning out to be a lot more complicated than I thought. MediaKyle (talk) 15:50, 11 December 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Let me know if there's anything I can do. 𝚄𝚗𝚘𝚠𝚗 𝙶𝚕𝚒𝚝𝚌𝚑 (We are currently clean on OPSEC.) 12:53, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
I did try to get the attention of some editors who edit Epstein-adjacent content, but unfortunately it seems there aren't many folks around who want to write this article at the moment. We're in a bit of a weird spot where List of material published by Distributed Denial of Secrets got split off but never maintained so it's a bit of a mess over here, that might be discouraging people.
If you're really wanting to see this article updated now, the quickest and easiest way to do so would be to write some additions yourself in your sandbox. Just click on the redlink in the above message and try your best to emulate the dry, monotone Wikipedia style -- I will edit it for you and add it to the article. If you choose to do this, please try to only use your strongest sources... I really don't like citing churnalism outlets like The Daily Dot. Forbes "contributor" articles and Substack blogs are also no good as sources. Let me know if you have any questions. Cheers, MediaKyle (talk) 13:05, 2 January 2026 (UTC)[reply]
