Bitterroot Salish language

Bitterroot Salish history

I added sections on the tribe's history during the last half of the 1800s. This article would be much better if it included the tribe's more recent history—right now there's only one paragraph to cover an entire century. But I just don't have the sources. Language and History

The language section currently blends talking about the development of the Salish language family to their history.

Which is unavoidable because the two are inherently intertwined, but by the time you get to the history section you've already gotten a briefing.

I see that the last update was 4 years ago so I'll try to reorder it myself.

Note: I reordered the Language section to remove as many redundancies as possible and to present a clearer timeline. But I left a few alone because I don't know enough about the terms the Salish uses to avoid accidentally changing the meaning. ArielStatswithanr (talk) 22:41, 17 October 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I now realize that:

1) The Salish language family was as much named after the Bitterroot Salish Peoples as most of the other peoples in the Salish language family.

2) This means that the whole language section needs a rewrite because it presents the Bitterroot Salish as THE original Salish Peoples.

3) The history section needs a review. Likely a rewrite since when I skimmed it, it sounded like a more detailed version of the language section.

I will primarily use the Confederated Salish & Kootenai Tribes’ website while checking the specific details of their language/history and making further edits. I will leave the link to their website in case I forget to come back.
