Refresh and Corrections

[edit]
  • I updated the page to include far more recent concepts and citations. Many citations on this page were from sources a decade or two old.
  • I removed the comment that analysts (the kind that AR deals with, anyway) work at the "Big Four" accounting firms. This is not true. This page relates to analysts who work at Gartner, IDC, RedMonk, Verdantix, etc.
  • I added points about GenAI and how it is disrupting AR. — Preceding unsigned comment added by DeepOcean0808 (talkcontribs) 19:50, 20 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to update the lead section

[edit]

Hi all — I am proposing an updated lead for this article. The previous version contained inaccuracies, most notably the statement that industry analysts work for the "Big Four accounting firms." That is not correct: industry analyst firms are companies such as Gartner, IDC, and Forrester, not Deloitte, PwC, EY, or KPMG. The old lead also lacked modern context and inline citations.

The new version has two short paragraphs:

  • **Paragraph 1** provides a clear, modern definition of Analyst Relations (AR) as a corporate communications and marketing discipline involving industry analyst firms (e.g., Gartner, IDC, Forrester) and, increasingly, independent B2B influencers.
  • **Paragraph 2** summarizes the function’s origins in the ICT sector and describes how surveys and practitioner reports show AR evolving into a strategic role that provides competitive intelligence and informs corporate decision-making.

Each major statement is **sourced**:

  • IIAR> Primer (2021) – definition of AR.
  • Babel PR (2024) – influence on buyers and procurement.
  • IIAR> AR Job Description (2021) – ICT origins.
  • Spotlight AR survey (2024) – AR as communications + strategy.
  • Info-Tech Research Group (2023) – AR linking external messaging and internal advisory.

This approach keeps the lead concise (two short paragraphs), neutral, and verifiable, while correcting the factual error about the "Big Four" and reflecting how AR is described in current, reliable sources.

If anyone has suggestions to improve balance or wording, let’s discuss here before reverting — that way we can avoid unproductive back-and-forth and ensure the lead represents a consensus, properly cited definition. Thanks! DeepOcean0808 (talk) 20:53, 21 September 2025 (UTC)[reply]
