  • diffhist m Higgs boson 10:22 +53 Jamspandex talk contribs (OK changed the description again - now it says that the Higgs interacts with particles whose mass originates for their interactions with the Higgs field. This should be correct for fermions and bosons, since it is the yukawa couplings only for the fermoins)
  • diffhist m Higgs boson 10:15 −46 Jamspandex talk contribs (Didn't like the previous discusion, so changed it, now it says that the Higgs couples to particles with mass, which is technically correct, but the mass is due to interactions with the Higgs field after symmetry, and the Higgs bosons are just excitations of the Higgs field about the vacuum expectation value, but they arise from the same source, so it would be better to say that the Higgs boson interact with fermions with a non-zero coupling to the Higgs field rathjen than mass.)
  • diffhist m Higgs boson 09:31 +61 Jamspandex talk contribs (The Higgs does NOT couple to mass, it couples to some particles with different strengths, but those couplings are responsible for the mass, not a result of the mass, ie the strength of the coupling produces the mass, not that the mass determines the strength of the coupling. As such, the Higgs couples to massless particles and after the symmetry breaking, those couplings result in the masses. We do not know why the Higgs couplings to the different particles are what they are.)
