Sejiro Avoseh (born 1990 in Lagos) is a Nigerian painter who lives and works in Essex, United Kingdom. Avoseh's art foregrounds his Nigerian heritage, the experience in his home country, and the challenges of adapting after migrating to a foreign nation that effectively colonized his birthplace.[1] His works are deeply autobiographical, lending critical voices on the poor fate of the indigent underclass in his society, and on the highhandedness and abuse of power by public servants and elected officials.[2]
In 2020, Avoseh was contracted to create cover design for a December 2020 edition of the Native Mag celebrating Wizkid's Made in Lagos album.[3] Avoseh and his works have been featured or profiled in various newspapers, art magazines, art blogs and other platforms including Le Monde, the Financial Times, Google Arts & Culture, Daily Trust, WhiteWalls, TheBlotted, The Sole Adventurer, Flux Review, and Whitehot Magazine.[1][4][5][6][7][8][9][10][11][12][13][14][15][16]
Education
[edit]Avoseh holds a Higher National Diploma in Creative Arts from Lagos State Polytechnic in Lagos, Nigeria, and a Masters in Fine Art at the University for the Creative Arts, Canterbury, Kent, England.[1]
