Scalefocus is a software engineering and IT services company founded in 2012 and headquartered in Sofia, Bulgaria. The company provides custom software development and nearshoring services covering the full software development lifecycle. Scalefocus operates delivery centers in Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Türkiye and serves clients in Europe, North America, and the Middle East.[2]
History
[edit]Scalefocus was founded in Sofia, Bulgaria, in 2012 as a software engineering company focused on delivering custom software solutions. In 2013, the company opened a commercial office in the United Kingdom, followed by an expansion into Germany in 2015.[3][4]
In 2016, Scalefocus invested in AVIQ Systems and established a representative office in Switzerland. In 2018, the company acquired Upnetix, a Bulgarian software development company specializing in mobile solutions and one of 50 worldwide Google-certified development agencies at the time. The acquisition brought approximately 120 professionals to Scalefocus.[5]
In 2019, Scalefocus acquired Centroida, a Bulgarian startup specializing in blockchain, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Approximately 30-40 specialists from Centroida joined Scalefocus following the merger.[6]
During the early 2020s, Scalefocus continued its international expansion, opening a delivery center in North Macedonia and a commercial office in the United States in 2020. Additional delivery centers were established in Türkiye and a second location in North Macedonia in 2021.[7][8]
By 2022, on its 10th anniversary, Scalefocus reported having approximately 800 employees across seven delivery locations and completion of over 500 projects.[9]
In May 2025, Scalefocus was included in the "International Association of Outsourcing Professionals (IAOP) Global Outsourcing" 100 list in the "Rising Star" category.[10]
Services
[edit]Scalefocus provides custom software engineering and consulting services across several domains, including data engineering and artificial intelligence, digital engineering, cloud and operations, analytics, mobile development, and UI/UX design. The company also delivers implementations and integrations of enterprise platforms such as Salesforce, Conga, MuleSoft, and other business systems.[11]
The company serves clients across multiple industry sectors, including information technology, financial services, insurance, energy and utilities, healthcare, logistics, e-commerce, iGaming, and aviation.[12]
Operations
[edit]Scalefocus operates seven delivery centers across Bulgaria, North Macedonia, and Türkiye: Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna, and Burgas in Bulgaria; Skopje and Bitola in North Macedonia; and Istanbul in Türkiye.[13]
The company maintains commercial offices in London (United Kingdom), Munich (Germany), Wilmington, and Delaware (United States).[14]
In 2021, Scalefocus adopted a "Work From Everywhere" policy, allowing employees flexibility in work location.[tone][15]
Awards and recognition
[edit]Scalefocus has received recognition from international and regional organizations for its work in software engineering and digital solutions. In 2021 and 2022, the company was named "Innovative Company of the Year" at the Forbes Business Awards in Bulgaria.[16][17]
In 2022, Scalefocus received an "International Business Awards" distinction in the category "Healthcare Technology Solution" for its SoundVision project.[18]
In 2023, the company received recognition at the "International Business Awards for Best Use of Blended Learning" and was also awarded by the Brandon Hall Group for "Best Advance in Talent Acquisition Process. In the same year, Scalefocus received a "Globee® Business Award" in the category "Medical Information Technology Solution".[19]
In 2023 and 2024, the company was recognized as "Most Innovative Company of the Year" at the International Business Awards.[20][21]
In 2024, Scalefocus received the "SEE Innovation of the Year" award from AIBEST and was also recognized by the "Globee® Awards" in the category "AI & IT Services, Energy and Utilities Disruptors".[22][23]
