The protocol uses a relay network consisting of smart contracts and relayers nodes or agents that execute cross-chain transactions on behalf of users. Users submit transaction requests, which relayers process by validating and settling the transfers across different chains, ensuring compatibility between heterogeneous blockchain architectures. The system prioritizes efficient transaction settlement, often on a low-cost Layer 2 chain, to reduce gas fees and enhance speed. Relay Protocol supports functionalities like token bridging and swaps but is primarily focused on enabling seamless communication and interoperability across disparate blockchain ecosystems.[3][4][5]
