Piri Reis map

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A surviving part of the Piri Reis map. The appended notes say "the map of the western lands drawn by Columbus"[1]

The Piri Reis map is a map of the world from the 16th century. It was drawn on a parchment of gazelle skin by Ottoman cartographer Piri Reis (Muhiddin Piri) in 1513. This map was used to support claims for a pre-modern exploration of Antarctica.

Only around one third of the map still exists, and it is located at the Topkapı Palace in Istanbul.[2]
