OneKey is a Hong Kong-based company[1][2] founded in 2019 that develops cryptocurrency security products. It specializes in open-source hardware wallets and companion software designed for self-custody of digital assets.[1]: About Us [3] The company's hardware offerings, including the OneKey Pro and OneKey Classic series,[4] incorporate high-security features such as Common Criteria EAL6+ certified secure elements,[5][6] and its ecosystem supports numerous blockchains.[7] OneKey raised US$20 million in a Series A funding round in 2022,[8] backed by notable investors including Coinbase Ventures, Dragonfly Capital, and Ribbit Capital.[1]

Company History

[edit]

OneKey was established in 2019 with the goal of developing comprehensive, open-source cryptocurrency wallet solutions focused on secure self-custody and user control.[9][10] Following its founding, the company developed its initial hardware wallet models, including the OneKey Mini and the original OneKey Classic wallet.[11][12]

A key development occurred in late September 2022 when OneKey secured US$20 million in Series A funding, co-led by Dragonfly Capital and Ribbit Capital, with participation from Coinbase Ventures and others.[13][14] In early 2024, the company announced an upgraded hardware lineup, unveiling the flagship OneKey Pro and the improved OneKey Classic 1S model.[15] The company has continued to integrate with the broader crypto ecosystem; notably, in March 2025, the MetaMask software wallet introduced native support for connecting OneKey hardware devices.[16]

It has an 86 × 52 × 5.2 mm form factor and weighs 20.5 g.[37][38] This model features an upgraded Common Criteria EAL6+ certified secure element chip (THD89) for enhanced protection.[39][40] It includes a slim 110 mAh rechargeable battery, powering Bluetooth connectivity across multiple platforms (iOS, Android, macOS, Windows, Linux, ChromeOS) and USB-C connection.[41][42] It has a monochrome OLED display (128x64) and four physical buttons for operation.[43]

OneKey Classic 1S Pure
[edit]

The OneKey Classic 1S Pure is a battery-free variant, available as of early May 2025.[44] It retains the 86 × 52 × 5.2 mm dimensions of the Classic 1S and its EAL6+ security chip.[45] It weighs approximately 18.3g.[46] This model offers Bluetooth and USB-C connectivity in a minimalist, battery-free design, supporting over 5000 coins.[47][48]

OneKey Lite

[edit]
OneKey Lite
OneKey Lite

OneKey Lite is an NFC-enabled smart card designed for recovery phrase storage, measuring 85 × 54 × 1 mm and weighing 5.5g.[49][50] It contains a Common Criteria EAL6+ secure element chip for military-grade encrypted backup.[51][52] It serves as an encrypted cold backup and can be paired via NFC with a OneKey hardware wallet (like OneKey Pro) or the OneKey mobile app to back up one set of recovery phrases.[53][54] The card is waterproof, tear-resistant, and features tamper-evident packaging and self-destruct protection.[55][56] RFID blocking sleeves are included to prevent unauthorized writing before use.[57]

OneKey KeyTag

[edit]

OneKey KeyTag is a cold-storage recovery phrase backup kit comprising two titanium tags and an automatic center-punch tool.[58][59] Each tag is made of aerospace-grade TC4 titanium alloy, making it resistant to water, corrosion (acids and alkalis), shocks, and extreme temperatures up to 1,668 °C (3034.4 °F).[60][61] Each KeyTag weighs approximately 14 g, measures 36 x 33.5 x 3 mm (approximately one-quarter the size of a credit card),[62]and supports up to 24 BIP39 recovery words (recorded by punching numbers corresponding to the BIP39 wordlist) plus two additional lines for passphrases.[63][64] The accompanying punch tool features a spring-loaded mechanism for consistent stamping.[65]

OneKey Mini (Discontinued)

[edit]

The OneKey Mini was a compact, mini-sized, affordable entry-level hardware wallet.[66] It featured a 1.44-inch monochrome screen, measured 71 × 34 × 6.8 mm, and weighed 15.6 g.[citation needed] It was powered via USB-C and did not offer wireless or Bluetooth connectivity.[67][68] New feature updates (such as support for new chains and tokens) were supported until June 2025; however, OneKey will continue to provide security patch maintenance for the OneKey Mini.[69]

OneKey Touch (Discontinued)

[edit]

The OneKey Touch was an earlier touchscreen hardware wallet offered by OneKey, positioned as a premium device before the introduction of the OneKey Pro, to which it has been described as an upgraded successor.[70] The official OneKey product page lists the OneKey Touch as "Sold Out".[71]

The OneKey Touch featured an aluminum alloy housing and a 3.1-inch color IPS multi-touch display with a 480 x 800 pixel resolution.[72][73] Device dimensions were 88.4 x 52.5 x 9.2 mm, with a weight of 75 g.[72][73] Security was based on an ATECC608A secure element chip.[72] It included an 800 mAh battery and offered connectivity via Bluetooth and USB-C.[72][73] The device supported over 5,000 cryptocurrencies and could function as a FIDO U2F security key, with compatibility across Windows, macOS, and Linux platforms.[71][72]

OneKey App

[edit]

The OneKey App is a software application designed to complement the OneKey hardware wallets and function as a standalone software wallet for managing cryptocurrencies and NFTs.[74][75] It is available as a desktop application for Windows, macOS, and Linux; a mobile app for iOS and Android; and as a browser extension for browsers like Chrome.[74][76]

The app allows users to manage a diverse portfolio of digital assets, supporting thousands of tokens across over 60 blockchains, including Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, BNB Chain, Polygon, Tron, and various EVM-compatible networks.[77][76] While many assets are supported natively, others can be managed by connecting the OneKey App to third-party wallets like MetaMask.[77] Key functionalities include sending, receiving, buying, selling, and swapping cryptocurrencies, staking for earning rewards, managing NFTs, and interacting with DApps through a built-in browser.[78][76] Users can also create multiple wallets and accounts to isolate risks and watch addresses.[76]

Security is a core aspect, with the OneKey App being open-source, allowing for community and expert audits (e.g., by SlowMist).[79][80] The app includes features like device authentication for connected hardware wallets, PIN/passcode protection, and risk detection for DApps, contracts, and suspicious websites, utilizing partners like GoPlus, BlockAid, and ScamSniffer.[81] The OneKey App facilitates firmware updates for OneKey hardware devices and provides tools for backing up and viewing recovery phrases for software wallets created within the app.[78]

Services

[edit]

OneKey Shifu

[edit]

OneKey Sifu is a one-on-one, 60-minute session service designed to assist and guide users who have purchased a OneKey hardware wallet on how to initialize and set up their device. This service enables users to quickly get started with their hardware wallet and manage their crypto assets.[82]

OneKey Card (Discontinued)

[edit]

The OneKey Card was a virtual VISA prepaid card service previously offered by OneKey. It allowed users to top up their cards using cryptocurrencies such as USDT and USDC. It could be used for transactions in major online and offline scenarios globally, including PayPal, Google Pay, Alipay, WeChat Pay, eBay, Shopee, Apple Pay, Walmart, and Amazon.[83][84]

The OneKey Card service has since been discontinued. According to official announcements and third-party media reports, the cessation of service was conducted in three phases: new registrations and card top-ups were halted on September 30, 2024; all existing cards were then automatically deleted with any remaining balances transferred to users' OneKey Card wallets on October 31, 2024; and the service was completely terminated on January 31, 2025.[85][86]

Technical Features

[edit]

OneKey emphasizes security and an open-source product philosophy. Most of its wallet software and firmware are developed under open-source licenses, with the source code publicly accessible on GitHub for community review and contribution.[87][88]

The security architecture of OneKey hardware wallets is built around dedicated secure microcontroller chips. The flagship OneKey Pro model incorporates four Common Criteria EAL6+ certified secure element chips, while the OneKey Classic 1S also utilizes an EAL6+ certified secure element for enhanced protection.[89][90] Access to the devices is secured by PIN authentication, and the OneKey Pro model additionally supports biometric verification through an integrated fingerprint sensor.[89] OneKey states that its products undergo periodic security audits by independent third-party firms, including SlowMist.[91] To further engage the security community, OneKey maintains an active bug bounty program, encouraging the responsible disclosure of potential vulnerabilities.[92]

For connectivity, OneKey hardware wallets typically feature a USB-C port. The OneKey Classic series (including the original Classic, Classic 1S, and Classic 1S Pure) and the OneKey Pro also offer Bluetooth Low Energy for wireless communication with companion applications.[89][90][93] The OneKey Pro supports air-gapped operations through QR code-based transaction signing, allowing for offline signing capabilities.[89] OneKey wallets are designed to integrate with a range of third-party software wallets and platforms, such as MetaMask, Electrum, and Sparrow.[94] In March 2025, native support for OneKey hardware wallets was introduced in MetaMask, enabling users to connect their devices directly via USB or QR code for managing assets through the MetaMask interface.[95] The device firmware adheres to common industry standards, including BIP39 for mnemonic seed phrases and BIP44 for hierarchical deterministic wallet structures.[96]

The OneKey ecosystem provides support for thousands of crypto assets across more than 60 blockchain networks, including prominent ones like Bitcoin, Ethereum, BNB Chain, Solana, and Polygon.[97][98] The companion OneKey App enables users to manage their portfolios, offering features such as token swapping, access to staking services (for assets like Ethereum and Solana), NFT viewing and management, and built-in security measures like phishing detection and detailed transaction previews before signing.[99][100][101] For Bitcoin users, OneKey wallets support Partially Signed Bitcoin Transactions (PSBT), facilitating interaction with multi-signature setups and advanced Bitcoin management software. Additionally, several OneKey hardware wallet models, including the Pro and Classic series, can function as FIDO2/U2F security keys for two-factor authentication on compatible online services.[89][102]

Market Presence

[edit]

OneKey has established a notable presence in the cryptocurrency hardware wallet market, with a particular focus on users valuing open-source solutions.[103] OneKey has been mentioned as an alternative to established brands like Ledger and Trezor in user discussions and some reviews, competing alongside other brands such as SafePal.[104][105]

The company actively expands its ecosystem support. For instance, OneKey provides developer documentation for integration with various blockchains, including specific API references for networks like Conflux.[106] The OneKey App facilitates interaction with decentralized finance (DeFi) by aggregating liquidity from various third-party providers and decentralized exchanges such as 1inch, 0x, Thorswap, and OKX DEX for its in-app trading (swap) feature.[107]

OneKey's commitment to open-source software and firmware is a key aspect of its market positioning, aiming to offer transparency in contrast to some competitors that may use more closed-source components.[103] The company has stated that its wallets secure significant amounts of crypto assets, with a figure of "3 billions+ of assets" protected mentioned in some product descriptions, although a specific date for this figure is not always provided.[108] Overall, OneKey is recognized among the array of hardware wallet brands available to cryptocurrency users.[109]

Funding and Investment

[edit]

In October 2022, OneKey raised approximately $20 million in a Series A funding round led by Dragonfly Capital and Ribbit Capital, with participation from Coinbase Ventures, Framework Ventures, Sky9 Capital, Folius Ventures, and Ethereal Ventures. Angel investors included Santiago Santos and Fenbushi Capital's Feng Liu.[110]

In early 2023, OneKey received additional backing in an extension round (Series A+) including a strategic investment from IOSG Ventures.[111] OneKey was reportedly the only hardware wallet company in Coinbase Ventures' global investment portfolio at the time.[112] In 2023, OneKey joined the Hong Kong Cyberport Incubation Program, receiving a HK$500,000 (approx. US$64,000) grant.[113] As of 2025, no Series B round has been publicly announced. OneKey's leadership cited a long-term vision of building a “trusted infrastructure for the next billion crypto users.”[114]
