HashKey Group ("HashKey") is a Hong Kong-based financial services company specializing in blockchain technology and digital asset trading.[1] Licensed by the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), HashKey Group operates one of the largest virtual asset exchanges in Hong Kong, HashKey Exchange, catering to both professional and retail investors.[2] The company is recognized for its contributions to Web3 infrastructure and its focus on compliant, institutional-grade blockchain services.[3][4]
History
[edit]HashKey Group was established in 2018 in Hong Kong, focusing on providing regulated financial services for digital assets. The company aimed to integrate traditional financial standards with blockchain technology, catering primarily to institutional and professional investors while prioritizing regulatory compliance.
In August 2023, HashKey and OSL became the first two companies to receive approval from the Securities and Futures Commission of Hong Kong to operate cryptocurrency exchanges for retail investors.[5]
By 2024, HashKey Group began expanding its operations internationally. It obtained a Class F license in Bermuda, enabling a wide range of digital asset business activities.[6] In Europe, the company secured registration as a Virtual Asset Service Provider (VASP) with the Central Bank of Ireland, facilitating its entry into the European Union market.[7]
In January 2025, HashKey Group received conditional approval from Dubai’s Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (VARA). By May 2025, it launched HashKey Global MENA, a platform tailored for the Middle East, supporting fiat on- and off-ramps in AED (UAE dirham) and USD to provide accessible digital asset services for regional investors.[8]
