Greg Urban

Greg Urban (* 1949 in Chicago) ist ein US-amerikanischer Ethnologe und Hochschullehrer.

Leben und Wirken

Greg Urban studierte Ethnologie an der University of Chicago. 1971 erwarb er dort den Bachelor- und 1973 den Magistergrad. Seine Promotion zum Ph.D. erfolgte an dieser Universität im Jahre 1978. Von 1974 bis 1978 führte er längere Feldforschungen bei indigenen Völkern in Brasilien durch. Bis 1980 unterrichtete er dann an der University of Chicago. Von 1980 bis 1994 war er dann als Hochschullehrer an der University of Texas, Austin, tätig, zunächst als Assistenzprofessor. 1987 wurde er außerordentlicher und 1993 ordentlicher Professor für Ethnologie. Seit 1994 hat er einen Lehrstuhl an der University of Pennsylvania inne. Im Jahre 1985 war er als Gastprofessor an der Universidade de São Paulo und an der Duke University tätig. In seinen Veröffentlichungen beschäftigt sich Urban neben den indigenen Völkern in Lateinamerika vor allem mit der Wirtschafts- und Kulturanthropologie.
