Gamebryo (עד 2003 נקרא NetImmerse) הוא מנוע משחק שמפותח כיום על ידי Gamebase Co., Ltd. ו־Gamebase USA. המנוע מממש סט כלים ותוספים (Plug-ins) שמאפשרים למפתחי משחקים לפתח בקלות עבור פלטפורמות שונות, ונמצא בשימוש על ידי משחקי וידאו רבים בז'אנרים מגוונים.
המנוע אומץ בין היתר על ידי חברת Bethesda Game Studios אשר השתמשו במנוע כבסיס לפיתוח מנוע Creation, עליו עובדים מאז 2011 משחקיה החדשים של החברה.
היסטוריה
[עריכת קוד מקור | עריכה]חברת Numerical Design Limited (NDL) היא חברה אמריקנית שעסקה במקור בפיתוח מערכות תיב"ם (תכנון בעזרת מחשב) עבור הממשל האמריקני, ובהמשך החלה לעבוד גם בשוק הפרטי עבור חברות פיתוח משחקי וידאו כגון Interactive Magic.[1] במסגרת עבודה זו הם הוציאו לאור ב-1997 את מנוע המשחק NetImmerse, ששינה את שמו ל-Gamebryo ב-2003.[2]
באוגוסט 2005 מוזגה החברה אל Emergent Game Technologies (EGT) אשר יצרו עבור המנוע ערכת פיתוח בשם Gamebryo LightSpeed. צוות הפיתוח שעבד על מנוע המשחק צומצם בשנת 2009, וביולי 2010 נסגר המשרד בקרוליינה הצפונית שעבד על המשחק. בנובמבר 2010 הציעה חברת EGT את נכסיה למכירה, לרבות זכויות הקניין הרוחני על המנוע.[3]
בדצמבר 2010 רכשה חברת Gamebase הדרום-קוריאנית את EGT, ואיתה את הזכויות על מנוע המשחק.[4] המנוע מפותח מאז על ידי הסניף האמריקני של חברת Gamebase, אשר הוציא את הגרסה הרביעית והאחרונה של מנוע המשחק במרץ 2012.
