| Description | Scanning electron microscope (SEM) at the Geological-Palaeontological Institute (GIK) of Christian-Albrechts-University, Kiel, Germany; SEM type is a Cambridge Stereoscan 150S, operated from 1978 to 1993 at GIK. Middle background is the column producing the electron beam with the sample chamber at the bottom and two buttons for manipulation of the sample orientation. On the front (upper right) a camera body is connceted to take black/white images on film (24x36). On the left an EDAX (Energy Dispersive Analysis of X-rays) for semiquantitative analysis of elements is connected. X-rays are produced by the electron beam in interaction with the sample; its energy is element dependent. |
