History

[edit]

Founded in 1954 under the name Progresul Siret, the club quickly established itself as a regular in Liga IV Suceava, the fourth tier of the Romanian football league system. The highlight of its history took place in the late 1970s and early 1980s, when the club, now renamed Zimbrul Siret, and under coach Deheleanu Octavian, won back-to-back Liga IV Suceava titles in 1978–79 and 1979–80, followed by a third one in 1981–82, thus achieving promotion to Liga III, where they finished as runner-ups in 1982–83.[5]

They went on to win the Liga IV Suceava on two more occasions, in 1994–95 and 1999–2000. In the 2010–11 season, Zimbrul Siret won the Youth Liga IV championship, thus earning the right to represent the Suceava County in the national competition.[6] Following their 2–1 home victory over the defending champion Somuz Falticeni on 30 September 2013, Siret isolated itself at the top of the A1 junior county championship standings.[7] In the opening match of the 2024–25 Liga IV Championship, Siret suffered a resounding 14–0 loss to Cetatea Suceava.[8]
