Zhu Pei (Chinese: 朱锫) is a Chinese architect and professor at the Central Academy of Fine Arts (CAFA) in Beijing, where he previously served as the dean of the School of Architecture.

Zhu holds a Master of Architecture from Tsinghua University and a Master of Urban Design from the University of California, Berkeley. In 2005, he founded Studio Zhu Pei in Beijing.

He was recognized as an Honorary Fellow of the American Institute of Architects (AIA)[1] and served as a jury member for the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2011.[2]

Design approach

[edit]

Zhu's work has been described as experimental, mainly focusing on cultural and civic programs. His projects investigate the relationship between architecture, nature, culture, and society. He has characterized his theoretical framework as the “Architecture of Nature,” an architectural statement rooted in local culture yet transformative in contemporary expression, demonstrating how cultural continuity and environmental responsibility can drive innovative, sustainable design within the built environment.
