Yuvraj Singh Samra (born 29 September 2006)[1] is a Canadian cricketer who plays as a left-handed top-order batter. He represents the Canada national cricket team and has competed in List A, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) matches.

Early life and domestic career

[edit]

Samra was born in Canada and was introduced to cricket by his father, who emigrated from India. As a child, he often accompanied his father to local cricket matches and quickly developed a strong interest in the game. He began playing at a young age and developed his skills through various local cricket programs. Domestically, he has competed in leagues such as the Toronto District Cricket Association (TDCA) and the Brampton & Etobicoke District Cricket League (BEDCL).[2]

International career

[edit]

Samra made his List A debut for Canada against Zimbabwe A on 26 February 2025 in Harare. In the second match of the series, he scored 80 runs, showcasing his potential at the senior level.[3]

In February 2024, he scored 124 runs against Hong Kong in an international tour match, further cementing his place as one of Canada's brightest young talents.[4]

In March 2025, Samra made his ODI debut for Canada against Namibia on 19 March 2025. He scored 53 runs in his debut match, marking an impressive start to his international career.[5]

Later in the same month, Samra debuted in T20I cricket against Namibia on 19 March 2025. He has played 8 T20I matches, with a highest score of 37 and a batting average of 21.83.

Samra was named the Batter of the Tournament during the Namibia Tri-Nation Series, recognizing his consistent performances throughout the series.

Playing style

[edit]

Samra is known for his aggressive and composed left-handed batting at the top of the order. He is regarded as one of Canada’s most promising young batters.

Records

[edit]

Samra holds the record for the fastest fifty by a Canadian in a T20 International, reaching the milestone in just 15 balls in June 2025. In that match, Canada was chasing a target of 53, and Samra scored 50 of the team’s total 54 runs. He broke the national record set only three days earlier by his teammate Harsh Thaker, who scored a fifty in 16 balls.[6]
