Xpatweb is a South African-based immigration consultancy firm founded in 2011. Operating as a division of Tax Consulting South Africa, the firm offers immigration compliance and advisory services to individuals and corporate clients. Its services include facilitation of work visas, corporate immigration processes, and immigration tracking systems.

History

[edit]

Xpatweb was launched as a specialist division within Tax Consulting South Africa to address growing demand for corporate immigration services. In 2017, the firm initiated its Annual Critical Skills Survey to assess occupational shortages in the South African labour market. The survey has informed debates around updates to the national Critical Skills List and is referenced in immigration advisory discussions.[1]

Services

[edit]

Xpatweb provides services across several key areas:

  • Business Visas
  • Immigration compliance audits and advisory
  • Expatriate payroll structuring and exchange control assistance
  • Immigration tracking software for corporate clients
  • Guidance on remote work and digital nomad visa regulations

Xpatweb is regularly cited in South African media for commentary on Department of Home Affairs policy, visa backlogs, immigration reform, and the design of South Africa’s proposed work visa framework.[2]

Critical Skills in South Africa

[edit]

South Africa's Critical Skills List identifies occupations in high demand, facilitating the issuance of work visas to foreign professionals in these areas. The list is periodically updated to reflect the country's evolving economic needs.

In February 2022, the Department of Home Affairs released an updated list, adding 39 occupations, predominantly in the healthcare sector, including specialist nurses, dentists, and pharmacists.[3] Subsequent updates in August 2022 and October 2023 further expanded the list to address shortages in sectors such as Information Technology, Engineering, and Finance.[4]

Notably, the inclusion of roles like Software Developers, Data Scientists, and Civil Engineers underscores the country's focus on digital transformation and infrastructure development.[5]
