  • Comment: Clash is an announcement as is Music Week (like from a press release). Sound of Life are blog posts so not a reliable source and the other two are interviews so primary sources and not independent. S0091 (talk) 21:05, 9 May 2025 (UTC)

Victor Ray (born 13th August 1999) is a British singer and songwriter from Newcastle, England. The youngest of 3 siblings he is best known for his 2024 single "Comfortable[1]" and singles "Stay for a While" and "It Only Cost Everything". He is currently signed to Decca Records[2]

Early life

[edit]

Victor Ray was born in Kampala, Uganda[3] on 13th August 1999 and moved to Newcastle, England with his mother, father and three siblings when he was only 1 year old. One of his earliest musical memories is of learning a dance routine for ABBA's Dancing Queen with his passion for performing coming from a Christmas Carol concert in Primary school[4]. He grew up listening to a broad range of music, including pop, R&B, soul hip-hop, rap and rock. As his interest in music grew, he bought a guitar and learned to play. He began performing at bars, cafes parties and open-mic nights focusing primarily covers of songs by the likes of Ed Sheeran, Bruno Mars, Hozier, Michael Jackson and his favorite artist Usher, who partially inspired Victor's stage name.[5]

Career

[edit]

After missing out at a place at Newcastle University to study sociology[6] Victor began working at a go-karting centre and started busking when he had exhausted all other performance opportunities[3]. His friends recorded and uploaded his performances onto social media helping developing his presence. His mother encouraged him to take a place at BIMM and he relocated to London to continue and develop his music career[6] whilst becoming a fixture busking around central London and picking up a manager.

When the pandemic started, he relocated back to Newcastle and honed his songwriting skills but quickly moved back to Camden to continue his music career. Shortly after arriving back in London he uploaded a cover of Hozier's 'Take Me To Church' shot on one of his busking sessions to TikTok and it quickly went viral boosting his profile and helping develop his audience.
