Teppei Isobe is a Japanese film director. He was born in Osaka Prefecture.

Career

While working at a restaurant, he enrolled at the Osaka Visual Arts College, Department of Broadcasting and Film (evening program) at the age of 28. He formed a film production group called belly roll film with his friends. After graduating, he gained experience working as an assistant director and in production. In 2015, he joined the staff of director Tadanori Kotani’s documentary film The Belongings of Frida Kahlo: Itsu Ichi, Like Weaving. Due to overseas location shoots, he left his job. After returning to Japan, he worked actively as a director for corporate videos and music videos.He began making films in 2016 and produced four short films in his first year.At the SKIP City International D-Cinema Festival, the film Mie o Haru, on which he worked as an assistant director, won an award in the 2016 International Competition. In 2018, his short film Yotei wa Mitei received the Excellence Award in the Domestic Competition. His first feature film, Mi wa Mirai no Mi, won the SKIP City Award in 2019, and Cornflakes received the Audience Award in 2020, marking three consecutive years of recognition at the festival. He has also received numerous awards at other domestic film festivals.In 2020, a special feature of Teppei Isobe’s films—including Mi wa Mirai no Mi, Yotei wa Mitei, and Overnight Walk—was screened at Uplink Kichijoji. The following year, in 2021, the program was also held at Cine Nouveau in Osaka.

In 2023, his feature films Cornflakes and Nagi no Yūutsu were released nationwide in theaters. His latest work is Yoru no Mani Mani.
