Tanner Scott Ostrander (born February 15, 1998) is an American film director, producer, and screenwriter. He is best known for creating the sitcom The Group Home and animated film A Walk in the Park.
Early Life
[edit]Ostrander was born in Richardson, Texas on February 15, 1998. He is the son of Kelly Ostrander (née Leach), who was a nurse, and Scott Ostrander, who was a general manager to boutique hotels. Ostrander is an only child, but his upbringing was far from ordinary. His family’s lifestyle meant frequent moves, and as a result, Ostrander had the opportunity to live in several states across the U.S., including Washington, Arizona, California, Indiana, Virginia, Florida, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Colorado, and Nevada.
He graduated from Lipscomb University in Nashville, Tennessee with a degree in English in May 2022.
Career
[edit]Ostrander's journey into the world of creativity and storytelling began unexpectedly during a tour of the Warner Brothers set, where he first discovered his passion for writing and creating.
While at Lipscomb, he began his career as a script reader for Kingdom Story Company, where he evaluated scripts, provided feedback, and even developed a feature film proposal for executives.
From there, Ostrander worked as a producer for an animated short film, Motion. However, his expertise in production extended beyond animation. After college, he accepted a position at Lifeway Christian as a line producer, where he produced children’s episodic television.
While at Lifeway, Ostrander launched his own company, Typical Turtle Productions, which produced his two notable works, The Group Home and A Walk in the Park. For both, Ostrander took on the role of writer and director. Ostrander credits the jazz style of Al Hirschfield for the inspiration in creating A Walk in the Park with his co-director, Mariah Young.
Personal Life
[edit]In his personal life, Tanner is a practicing Christian who values his faith deeply.
He first met his wife, Emily, at Lipscomb University in 2021, and their relationship quickly flourished. The couple was married in a intimate ceremony in Nashville, Tennessee, on April 6th, 2024.
Outside of his professional and spiritual life, Tanner enjoys playing golf, following Train around the country, and watching Indiana sports. He is a self proclaimed Boilermaker and is a Disney enthusiast.
