Origins

Surf Gang began as a New York City skate crew in 2017 before evolving into a music collective in 2018. Founded by producer Evilgiane with Eera and Harrison, the crew emerged from the DIY underground scene and quickly built a reputation for its unique sound and visual identity.

Evolution

2018–2021: Operated as a rap collective with artists including Polo Perks, Babyxsosa, Moh Baretta, Casper, and more.
Mid-2022: The group’s last full-cast project, At Least We Tried, marked a pivot from collective to label.
2023–present: Surf Gang Records now operates primarily as a label and production hub, collaborating with artists globally.

Style and Sound

Surf Gang helped define the “sample drill” sound—pairing Y2K-era pop samples and ambient textures with hard-hitting drill percussion. Their sound mixes vaporwave, emo, plugg, and trap with experimental hip-hop elements.
