Sony Music Group Global Scholars Program
[edit]The Sony Music Group Global Scholars Program is an annual international scholarship initiative organized by Sony Music Group in collaboration with the Institute of International Education (IIE). Launched in the 2022–2023 academic year, the program provides financial aid and educational support for undergraduate students pursuing degrees in music, music business, audio technology, production, and related disciplines from universities across the world.[1][2]
Background
[edit]This program is part of the broader Sony Global Social Justice Fund launched by Sony Music Group in 2020, aiming to expand access to higher education and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in the global music industry.[3]
Scholarship scheme and funding
[edit]The program offers financial assistance ranging from USD 3,000 to USD 20,000 per year, based on the student's financial need and geographic location.[2][4] Applications must be submitted online through the official IIE application portal and include a completed form, a personal statement (maximum 3,500 characters), academic transcripts, and two letters of recommendation.[4]
Enrichment and conference
[edit]In July 2024, Sony Music Group held its first Global Scholars Conference at its global headquarters in New York City. The four-day event gathered 50 scholars from 18 different countries and included panel discussions, industry workshops, studio experiences, and networking opportunities with professionals from the international music industry.[5]
Global impact
[edit]Since its inception in June 2022, the program has received thousands of applications from over 70 countries. Each academic year, at least 50 students are selected globally, emphasizing Sony Music Group’s commitment to inclusive education and creative talent development.[3]
2025–2026 open scholarship program
[edit]Applications for the 2025–2026 academic year officially opened on July 8, 2025, and will close on August 8, 2025. Students interested in applying are required to register and submit documents via the IIE application system. The selection committee will evaluate candidates based on academic performance, financial need, leadership potential, and commitment to the music industry. The recipients will be notified in early October 2025. Scholarships will be disbursed to support tuition, books, and academic expenses during the school year.[1][4]
Global scholars around the world
[edit]Indonesian scholar
[edit]One of the recipients of the Sony Music Group Global Scholars Program 2022–2026 cohort is Maharsyalfath Izlubaid Qutub Maulasufa, also known as Alfath Flemmo, an undergraduate student at President University, Indonesia, majoring in Information Systems for Business and Management with a focus on music technology. He was awarded a scholarship and attended the 2024 Global Scholars Conference in New York City alongside other international participants. His selection has been covered by several Indonesian media outlets, including Kompas, Suara.com, Media Indonesia, Viva News, and Times Indonesia.[6][7][8][9][10]
