The Signal Awards showcase standout podcasts in order to show the medium's potential and uplift the industry. The awards were founded by the organizers of the Webby Awards and the first set of awards were granted in January 2023.[1] They aim to be as prestigious for the podcasting industry as the Academy Awards are for the film industry.[2]
The award-granting process includes a stage in which the public initially votes for podcasts and consideration by the Signal Academy[3][4], which is composed of major contributors to the podcasting field.[5] The result is multiple types of awards are granted, the Listeners' Choice Award and the Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards.[6][7]
Audio projects that are eligible for the awards can come from any type of creator, including students.[8] The categories in which an award is granted are: Shows, Limited Series & Special, Individual Episodes, Branded Shows & Advertising.[9]
Podcasts and members of the podcasting community may also get special achievement awards from the organization.[10]
Well-known winners include: Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, Jon Stewart, Trevor Noah, Anderson Cooper, Kara Swisher
