Mohammad Shariful Alam Chowdhury (born 2 June 1981) is a Bangladeshi senior investigative journalist and researcher on the Liberation War. He was born in the village of Kaziatal in Muradnagar Upazila, Comilla District, Bangladesh.

Career

Chowdhury began his career as a grassroots reporter in Comilla. He has worked with several national newspapers including *Daily Janakantha*[1], *The Sangbad*, *Bhorer Kagoj*, *Daily Samakal*, and *Ajkaler Khobor*[2]. His journalism mainly focuses on corruption, local governance, and human rights violations.

Attacks and International Response

Due to his investigative reporting, he has been targeted with multiple attacks, false cases, and imprisonment. On July 4, 2020, he was brutally attacked after exposing local corruption. The assault sparked strong condemnation from global media and press freedom organizations.

International watchdog *Reporters Without Borders (RSF)* described the attack as an attempt to silence critical journalism.[3] The *International Federation of Journalists (IFJ)* also issued a statement condemning the assault.[4]

Global media outlets including *Voice of America (VOA)*[5], *Dhaka Tribune*[6], *The Daily Star*[7], and *Northeast Now*[8] covered the incident extensively.

Mohammad Shariful Alam Chowdhury contested as a candidate in the 2024 12th National Parliamentary Election in Bangladesh.[9][failed verification]

Personal Life

He is the son of a freedom fighter and continues to work under significant threats due to his journalism. He remains active in exposing local irregularities and advocating for justice in rural Bangladesh.
