Samarjeet Chakra (born 9 March 2002) is an Indian professional Taekwondo athlete. He has represented India at the Asian and World Taekwondo Championships and is known for his achievements in both Kyorugi and Poomsae events.
Early life and education
[edit]Chakra was born in Keonjhar, Odisha, India. He began training in Taekwondo at the age of nine in 2010. He completed his schooling at Kendriya Vidyalaya Bhadrak. He pursued his graduation in English Literature and is currently continuing his Master’s in English Honours.
Career
[edit]Chakra started his competitive Taekwondo journey in sub-junior and cadet categories, securing several medals at state and national levels. He became a three-time consecutive State Champion of Odisha in Kyorugi before transitioning to Poomsae in the senior category.

[edit]- 2022 – Bronze medal in National Poomsae Championship
- 2023 – Silver and Gold medals in National Poomsae Championships
- 2024 – Gold medal in Individual Poomsae, National Championship
International representation
[edit]In 2024, Chakra was selected for the official Indian National Team and represented India at:
- Asian Taekwondo Championship (G-4 ranking event) held in Danang, Vietnam
- World Taekwondo Poomsae Championship (G-8 ranking event) held in Hong Kong
Recognition
[edit]The former Chief Minister of Odisha, Naveen Patnaik, congratulated Chakra for his selection and achievements. He has also been appreciated by the Director of Sports, Government of Odisha, for his consistent performance and international representation.
He has been featured in multiple news articles highlighting his journey and contribution to Taekwondo in India.
