Production
[edit]The film was officially launched on January 2 2025, with a pooja ceremony in Hyderabad. Filming began in Odisha, India, specifically at the Talamali Hilltop in the Semiliguda block of Koraput district. A combination of real jungle terrains and elaborate sets replicating ancient Indian cities like Kashi is being used, with additional locations in Africa reportedly being scouted.
The project’s production scale is reportedly among the largest ever in Indian cinema, with high expectations for VFX and elaborate set design. The filmmakers have constructed massive sets in Hyderabad to recreate mythological elements of Kashi. A hybrid shooting method is being used, combining real locations with studio-built environments.
Leaks and Controversy
[edit]In March 2025, leaked video clips from the Odisha schedule went viral on social media, revealing a rugged look of Mahesh Babu and confirming Prithviraj Sukumaran's role as the villain. One scene depicts the lead character being held at gunpoint. The production team responded with heightened security, including a three-layer arrangement and legal warnings against unauthorized footage circulation.
Development
[edit]Director Rajamouli has expressed interest in creating a pan-India film rooted in Indian tradition but told through an international lens. He described the film as a “James Bond or Indiana Jones” adventure with Indian roots during a media interaction at the 2022 Toronto International Film Festival. Mahesh Babu has described the role as physically demanding and called the opportunity to work with Rajamouli “a dream come true.”
Release
[edit]The film is scheduled for a Summer 2027 release, and is expected to be dubbed in multiple Indian and foreign languages. It will be released theatrically worldwide.
